Tyler Perry's Madea character, whom he plays in drag, has been a wild success on the stage and big screen. Not satisfied with just entertaining adults with his love-her-or-hate-her Madea, Perry plans to create a cartoon about her.
"After receiving thousands of letters from parents telling me how much their kids love Madea and realizing that a lot of the plays were not kid friendly," said Perry, "I wanted to do something more appropriate, and this seems to be it. A 'Madea' animation looks like the best way."
The playwright-turned-filmmaker will create, write and executive produce an undetermined number of 22-minute standalone episodes and also provide the voice of Mabel "Madea" Simmons.
The cartoon will be completed before it's shopped around to networks or sold on DVD. With Perry's Midas touch, it shouldn't matter how he ends up distributing — he'll make a fortune. [EUR]
I dont think dude should be that repetitive with his material (ie: TV shows)..because honestly that TBS show..I dont even remember the name
I love Tyler and his movies/plays however, the one complaint I have is regarding the necessity of Madea having a gun. I mean, blacks have enough movies that revolve around guns and violence. Tyler could have been just as effective without having a gun in his movies or plays.
Other than that, I love this dude.
Nah. Madea needs a gun. Actually she needs a bigger one. And a bow and arrow.
Not a huge fan of "Madea", but I can definitely see a series like this going on to do major numbers. unlike adults, I'm sure the kids won't have too many complaints about Tyler's style of comedy and storytelling.
Rolling my eyes over here. The whole black man in mammy drag thing has been over for me for quite some time.
How is this better than the rest of the crap they watch on TV? There's a prayer at the end or a thinly veiled lesson.
