Mariah Carey Continues To Dress Like A Tween
To Each Her Own...

Eternal 12-year-old Mariah Carey reverted back to 1982, when she was at her ideal age, with this horrendous outfit at a TRL taping. You’re telling me Mimi has all the money in the world and she chose to go with an outfit (complete with glittery belt) one could find at a garage sale?

I think it's cute. If you have body, flaunt it for as long as you can b/c it will not last!

I personally think she should stop dressing like she's 16 when she's almost 40.

SMH. I really can't stand her music because of the way she dresses and because she always tries too hard. She is a grown a– woman. She needs to look at the sexy, well-dressed, grown a– women in her age bracket. Heck, take a 20 year old and copy her. It'd be an upgrade. The totsitute look is never good.

Yeah, she can still be sexy and show off her shape without dressing like a 12 year old. Enough already! Daria is right, if she could dress like a 20 yr old that would work out a lot better.

Examples: Nia Long, Halle Berry, Gabrielle Union, Essence Atkins, Jada, Nona Gaye, Tamia

All dress like grown women, in clothes that fit and flatter, and all manage to be sexier and more youthful than the woman who is wearing tween clothes.

All I'm saying is we all know at least one woman in our lives who dresses exclusively for men… she would be our world's own personal Pamela Anderson. Well, Mariah don't haaaardly care about what women have to say about her & her 7th grade get-ups. That chick is dressing only for men (and small children.) SMH

co-sign with Michelle - I think that she tries so hard to be sexy. I like the little skirt for my 2 yrs old niece. Not for someone pushing 40. She acts like a video ho (in her videos) but can sing.

You can dress for men and look decent. Those aren't mutually exclusive. Beyonce and Kim Kardashian dress for men but they dress like grown women. I don't often love their outfits, but I will take some clingy Herve Leger number over a multicolored Children's Place skirt, a glitter belt from the JC Penney Juniors department and an oxford that's tied up. Are we still doing that? Bare midriffs are very passe unless you're on a beach or on a stage performing. She looks like a 38 year old woman who is trying to relive her early 90s glory days. It's not cute or sexy. It's desperate.

She is so in denial at 40 being only one block ahead. It's possible to be over 40 and wear short skirts just not like this. The editor of French Vogue,Carine Roitfeld, wears mini skirts and short dresses all of the time and looks darn good too.

Beyonce doesn't dress for men *all* the time. Even though that girl and her showgirl get-ups work my nerves, too, Beyonce sometimes tries to be the Girl Next Door or "Proper Lady" to the best of her House of Dereon/Tina Knowles sensibilities. *smh* Mariah, on the other hand, (much like Pam A) dresses for men allllll the time (hence that perpetual smile plastered all over her face. Never seeming to be sad/mad/annoyed/or anything other than pleased-as-punch is her biggest I-am-your-every-fantasy weapon.) And that Kim Kardashian… Lord have mercy, that child's a whole nother story… but I would say she, too, dresses for men alllllll the time.

Mariah needs to grow up like the rest of us. She look's ridiculous. She's almost 40!!! But you can tell that Mariah don't give a shit about much. Just look at her!! That ridiculous smile on her face 24/7 and cheap clothes just screams "Kiss my a$$!" And to top it off, she marries a man 10 years her junior. Now before ya'll start, I've absolutely nothing against older woman/younger man, but with Mariah, it just seems like something is off. Something is not right. She's off. Mariah could be suffering from mental illness. I'm not trying to be funny either. Something is off about that girl!!

It's a case of arrested development.

Look at Halle, Demi, Tina Turner, etc. They may not look their age, but they act like grown a– women. Halle and Demi dress in an age-appropriate, sexy way. They're not trying to be 20-something like their men. As a result, they don't seem desperate. There's no way Mariah has the confidence that they do because if she did, she wouldn't constantly wreak of desperation. Seriously, what established, talented musician do you see pulling Britney tricks in their music videos?

I'm a dude and I have no problems with the way she dresses. I mean she's not exactly my type but why does she have to dress like every other famous chick who sings and dances?
Props to her for being kinda nutty and dressing like she wants.

This isn't original. This is what Britney was rockin in 95 when she was a Disney kid trying to morph into a hot mess.

The title of this post is exactly what I thought when I first saw this at the Fug Girls' site.

"Beyonce and Kim Kardashian dress for men but they dress like grown women."

Thank you. The two aren't mutually exclusive. She doesn't even "have" to do this. She's talented, she's attractive — wait. Maybe this is a part of a ploy to stay relevant to the particularly lucrative youth demographic. She's been around for more than a minute, and she doesn't want to be shunted into the "easy listening" category on account of the fickle tastes of the aforementioned audience, and as bad as it looks, it may actually be working.

"I mean she’s not exactly my type but why does she have to dress like every other famous chick who sings and dances?"

But she actually does, and that's the issue. She's dressing like her colleagues, who are about 10-15 years younger than her, on average. She is not Hanna Montana.

I just think it's a shock to your senses because we're not used to seeing Black women walking around looking like Playboy bunnies. We're used to seeing Pamela Anderson dressed like a Playboy bunny til she's 397 years old, but naaa, it's not a look we see much on Black women. Mariah's just rocking that Blonde Bimbo Playboy Bunny look that's been around forever. This look traditionally has been reserved for the Hee Haw chicks, Barker Beauties and Hugh Hefner's Heffers. Who else Black does this? Oh OK, there's that Traci Bingham. Chick be rockin pink lucite Candies, a Pepto Bismol colored miniskirt cut for a three year old, a hot pink tank with glitter & feathers, and something else pink in her hair… oh and a shiny pink pout. *SMH* But other than that, that's about it. But white women been looking trampish like this for years. We've just become used to it. This is what they call "sexy." Our sexiness has traditionally come a little harder… a la Pam Grier.

"This is what they call “sexy.” "

Untrue. White celebs do not get a free pass from other white people for dressing like this on a regular basis. This style is often referred to as "trashy", "sleazy", and "skanky", for better or for worse, especially among women. Like black culture, in mainstream culture there is a difference between looking like a porn star (Pamela Anderson) and looking sexy (Catherine Zeta Jones).

"Who else Black does this?"
Lil' Kim & Wendy Williams, FTW.

I don't think it's acceptable for white women, especially those her age, to dress like this. I could write several books about what's wrong with how Pam Anderson and Shauna Sands dress. They make Mariah look like a frickin nun at times.

The difference between Mariah and the hoish looking clan are that:
1) Mariah has a talent. They do not.
2) Mariah is VERY famous. They are not.
3) If they had a tiny sliver of Mariah money, fame or talent, they wouldn't dress like that because they would get attention for what they do, not for the outrageous way they dress

What they have in common is a lack of confidence that is oh so sad on someone that grown. I remember when I used to wear boudoir wear as outerwear. I was 18, very depressed and hungry to be lusted after by everyone and everything. I will say this: in the entire time that I wore corsets as tops, I at least managed to wear pants. When I wore skirts. They didn't come from the girls 4-16 section of the store. I, a mere mortal, decided to respect myself at around 19. Why is this 38 year old STILL strolling around looking 100 times more desperate than I ever did?

I have never once seen Mariah Carey in a flattering, beautiful, or appropriate outfit. Everything she puts on makes her look trashy. What is with her anyway? Isn't there one person in her life who can help her look like a woman?
