Mathew Knowles Bites Back

mathewbeyonce.jpgMathew Knowles is not entertaining Aretha Franklin’s criticism of his daughter’s choice of words at the Grammys. In fact, he’s not even “taking it” to Beyonce. But if she hasn’t heard about it by now, she lives under a rock.

“As a manager I am not taking something this ridiculous to Beyonce. Beyonce referred to Tina Turner as a ‘queen,’” he told CelebTV.com. “Not queen of gospel, queen of soul, queen of blues, Queen of England. I consider my wife a queen and sometimes call her that. Does Aretha have a problem with that?”

Aretha probably does have a problem with that. No one named Tina is allowed to be called a queen! Why don’t people understand that? [DB]

Matthew Knowles is ruthless but he’s a true father. Don’t you let nobody miss with your kids!

Aretha has always been known as the queen of soul but I agree her public comment was immature.

Why would papa knowles have to take it to beyounce? The chick can read can’t she? Celebs read these blogs & gossip columns just like we do. Then again she’s not exactly the brightest bulb in the box & most likely is clueless about what goes on.

I don’t know that Beyonce is as dense as it is claimed that she is. I think bigger celebs avoid reading all the gossip rags, because some of it has got to be hurtful. She’s probably aware of it, but her Dad has stepped in to sweep it away.

I rewatched the whole thing on Youtube and can kinda see Aretha’s point. In the beginning Beyonce names all the women who have influenced her from Mahalia Jackson, Nancy Wilson, and Diana Ross without any mention of Aretha and then calls Tina the queen. I think it was just a dumb mistake on the writer’s part though, and Aretha’s statement was unnecessary. Doubt Beyonce lost any sleep over it.

As much as I HATE to agree with this slimeball, I actually do. Aretha needs to get over herself. It may have been a snub by the writers, but you should be classy enough to let some stuff go.

I agree. Absolutely rediculous of her to get mad at Bey of something so stupid.

Aretha acted like a child. End of story. I’m sure she’ll mention it at the Image awards this week.

I find it more acceptable to have an immediate though inappropriate outburst a la Kanye because it’s basically acting out without thinking in the heat of the moment. Aretha went home, slept on it and two days letter, basically throws a tantrum via press release.

She’ll sue CoverGirl and Queen Latifah for usurping “her” title.

Beyonce (I hate to say this, because I like the girl) is so overrated. Just step back and sit down for Tina and Aretha. Period. The new female artists are so mediocre. God help us all. I’m going to hear Dianne Reeves tonight at the Apollo. In case you don’t know, she “sings.” Know what that is, Beyonce, Ciara, (you’re okay Tamia) and the rest of you?

Aretha has always been known as the queen of soul. When she made ‘Respect’, it was an anthem in the civil rights movement. She and her father contributed enormously to the movement with money, support, and song. This is not egotism, it is history.
Beyonce and her father are known primarily for her mediocre musical talent, her weaves, her father’s ceaseless promotion of her, and maybe her mother’s misguided fashion sense.
While I suspect even Beyonce’s fans don’t look to her for intellectual heft, It’s peculiar that someone of Aretha’s stature has taken so many hits for her relatively benign comment.
I think Aretha has the right to name her place in history, when someone has very publicly ignored it.
