Memphis Teens’ ‘Rape Dance’ Sparks Outrage
Kids These Days

rapedance

A Memphis high school is under press scrutiny after a video entitled “Mitchell High School Memphis … Rape Dat Ho” turned up on YouTube. In the clip, several teenagers simulate rough sex while peers cheer them on. Although the clip was flagged as offensive and then removed from the video sharing site, another soon took its place, this one featuring teens humping the floor a la Peer Pressure, all the while in full view of adults.

Mitchell High School administrators have confirmed that both incidents took place inside the school’s gymnasium, but, as you might expect, they are hesitant to take the blame for the act. According to a statement released by Memphis City Schools, it’s THE MEDIA that’s making these children play rape:

Pop-culture, the Internet and mainstream media greatly influence the activity and behavior of today’s youth. We trust that our partners in education — parents, guardians and school families will continue to reinforce to children the appropriate way to conduct themselves before, during and after school hours.

Clearly, “Accepting Responsibility 101″ is not part of the Mitchell High School curriculum.

What’s next? Kids are just going to strip naked and have sex with each other in broad daylight? Oh wait, they might already be doing that. I remember being there age and thinking the someone coming up behind me to dance was scandalous and now this could be considered normal?

Again, perilous times we live in and the real sad thing is there will be too many that watch this video and they’ll laugh and say they’ve seen it before, it’s nothing new, it’s what kids do but wait until the same child is actually raped. We are dangerously close to raising a generation of rapists and promiscuous women and don’t say it isn’t so because if these kids can do this in a gym, you know good and well they are capable of much more deleterious activity. They are already training themselves to have a ravenous sexual appetite by the things they do over clothes and sober.
Watch for the signs people. If you haven’t started praying, pray now. This is a serious matter.

I can’t view the video at this time but I will say that peer presure or not we, Americans, have a very scewed view when it comes to sex and how we present it.

It is also very sad that these young men think it is okay to treat a woman like this. Is it any wonder then that we have situations like Dumbar Village.

sidenote @ LP: How exactly does one equate “a rapists and promiscuous women”?? If one is going to equate promiscuity to rape, at the very least, please include both genders.

Anywhoo, I worked as a college recruiter in the m-town, and this school was one of my territories. even in the late 90s it was considered a lost cause. i don’t so much blame the school as i do the parents, the community, the school district, the city, the state, the country, and every other entity that has turned its back on these kids, and is just letting them grow up rather than being raised by someone.

Summer: I was a bit in the moment and enraged after watching the video. Yes it creates promiscuity on both genders indeed. Maybe not rapists, but because I was appalled by what I saw it was like anything is possible. I am just afraid for what happens next to kids that do stuff like this…

It doesn’t create promiscuity. Promiscuity created it. Doesn’t strike me as a dance virginal children are doing, you know?

The same outrage was shown at ‘freaking’ when I was young. We couldn’t freak dance at my jr. high balls and dances b/c it would get you banned from all school functions. Oddly though…slow dancing and pretty much getting felt up on the dance floor was ok?? No kissing though!!

I’m guessing this rape dance is an abomination of freaking, but it’ll pass as a fad I’m sure.

Perhaps part of the consequences for the “Rape Dat Ho” group should be to watch the documentary on real rape in the COngo; three year olds and grandmothers being raped, women who are killed afterwards, or worse, left with mangled bodies and spirits, only to be shunned by their villages. Or better yet,how would these guys like to be dropped off in the Congo to fend for themselves?? How disgusting that “rape” has no meaning to these kids, but it is a word with immense and devastating power to those who truly experience it.

Not to be rude or anything to those who left their comments on the the dance that happened at the school that I attended and WILL return to but you all really don’t know anything. Mitchell is a great school but unfortunately out of every bunch there’s a bad seed and the boy who recorded and aired that video is clearly the one to blame. Even though I was absent that day, I feel that it’s not the entire school’s fault for the dumb idea of one boy. We all have already been punished enough with the humiliation of being all over the news and internet. Anyway we are all different and have different views on things and I personally feel that if a person wishes to dance promiscuisly to enjoy themselves, let them do it. Dancing like that didn’t seem to bother those who were doing it and after no one was accused of anything and no one was made to do anything they didn’t want to do. There’s all this talk about high school kids dancing wild at a dance but what is there to say about the way people dance at all these clubs? Nothing really because I know you all aren’t just standing around singing and clapping your hands.
