Perhaps Michelle Obama needs to make a visit to the O'Reilly Factor. It certainly worked for her husband. O'Reilly softened his stance on the senator after being allowed to yell at and berate him for an hour. Then again, I can't see Bill O'Reilly ever ceasing to assassinate Michelle Obama's character at every opportunity. She's clearly the wrong race/gender combination. You see, she just looks so angry. This was actually a topic of conversation — again — on O'Reilly's show yesterday. Media Matters watched so we wouldn't have to.
During the "Obama Chronicles" segment of the September 16 edition of Fox News' The O'Reilly Factor, host Bill O'Reilly stated of Michelle Obama: "Now I have a lot of people who call me on the radio and say she looks angry. And I have to say there's some validity to that. She looks like an angry woman."
During the segment, O'Reilly asked Vogue magazine contributing editor Rebecca Johnson: "The perception is that she's angry in some quarters. Valid?" Johnson began her response by stating: "Well — they say she looks angry because of maybe of the cast of her eyebrows or something like that. But, no, I don't find her to be angry. I think what happens is that we expect women to be cheerful and happy all the time in that kind of television personality kind of way. And she's not like that. She's a thoughtful person." He later asked Human Events columnist Michelle Oddis: "Now, did you find out about the angry woman thing, Rebecca? I'm sorry, Michelle? Did you — is there any validity to that? Or is that an urban myth?" Oddis responded: "I wouldn't say it's an urban myth. I think we all can tell just by appearances and speeches and the way that Michelle has personified herself that she's not warm and fuzzy. We know that about her."
Not warm and fuzzy = angry?!
Shit, Sarah Palin isn't warm and fuzzy. She called herself a pitbull and the campaign called her a barracuda.
Bill O'Reilly calling Michelle Obama angry? Isn't that the pot calling the kettle black? good lord…
The only people of color that O'Reilly and other whites of his ilk are comfortable with and accepting of are those of the self-loathing coon and buffoon persuasion.
An AA, especially an AA woman, with the intellect, self-confidence and determination of Michelle Obama threatens the hell out of him and his kind.
I think she is very pleaseant and have not seen any evidence that she or Barack are angry people. However I have seen and read much evidence that McCain and Palin are angry and bellicose. I am a white person just. I state this only to prove that their are plenty others like me that see through this crap!
BTW, Michelle Obama will be cooking with Paula Deen on Paula's Party this weekend. Saw the clip on the website and Mrs. Obama was very cheerful and friendly. Maybe Mrs. Obama just realizes that a Prozac induced smile may not be the most helpful thing on the campaign trial
@SweetDiva: OMG- Paula Deen? She did an episode once with Sugar Ray Leonard, during which she made all kinds of dirty jokes and comments about "brown sugar". Poor Sugar Ray looked soooo uncomfortable, like he wanted to run! Let's hope she behaves herself around Michelle Obama…
You know why people think Michelle is angry and Cindy McCain is a cyborg? It's the eyebrows, people. Both make them look harsh, for Michelle because they angle down too sharply, and for Cindy because are plucked into nonexistence, and in both cases it hurts their look. I don't know if Michelle could do hers differently, but you would think Cindy McCain's million-dollar styling squad would have tipped her off by now.
Incidentally, I saw the Obamas in person and at close range on the day of the the first Democratic debate in Orangeburg, SC. Not that it should matter either way, but Michelle looked totally personable and cheerful. I think any claims of her looking "angry" stem from certain people being selective and seeing what they want (or expect) to see.
