• The game doesn't stop for the Game. He's abroad right now, but a trial was just set in the states for his three felony charges. [MTV]
• This whole "Regulators" and "Vikings" thing at the LA Sheriff's Dept. is just very, very strange. [LAT]
• Stay away from those African drums. [IOL]
• The vast majority of students who didn't find a place this year in Dublin's public schools are black. And there are enough of them to start a whole all-black school. [IHT]
All the white people I know of with adopted kids from Africa are rich. It's one thing to pull that crap on some regular folk. When you do this to a rich person, prepare to be put on blast.
Irish-Americans in some cities (see New England) have a lot of problems with black people so I would expect nothing less from Irish people.
As for the anthrax, that's unfortunate.
As usual, I have to disagree. I think the Irish have prejudices and biases like any other ppl. The main issue is that most Irish ppl are very, very poor - which a lot of people don't know. I think they view immigrants of any sort as taking what little they have from them. I've been to Ireland 2x - once in college (Dublin, Monkstown and the other little towns of Dublin county) and once with my boy for a wedding 2 years ago (he has some Irish cousins) and I was treated very well there. Granted on this last trip we were with locals, but we were still out in the sticks of East Galway. American Irish and European Irish are different. The ppl I've encountered in New England - specifically Boston have just been either hella cool, grumpy or totally racist. I make it a point to stay away from Boston for that reason.
bmd, I now live in beantown so there's no avoiding them. A black guy and a white guy went to one of their many pubs to play pool. "N—er" and "n-lover" were thrown around. The bartender failed to intervene or call cops when it got violent. The two men were then physically assaulted in the parking lot. The only thing that came of it is that the bartender got cited for not calling the cops.
Yea. That place scares me b/c I have never been called a nigger in my LIFE - and I spent many summer breaks, winter breaks and countless other times in bayou Louisiana growing up without ever hearing that word come out of white person's mouh-so I am not trying to deal with that now. All of my friends from Boston are cool…maybe that's why they now live in LA or SF? They had to leave Boston b/c they were mot sufficiently racist. LOL.
LA has its problems too. They are somewhat different though and between the two, I'll go with Boston. If you live in certain parts like Jamaica Plain, the financial district or Cambridge, you can avoid a lot of BS. The gentrification brings in young professionals who aren't from the area.
My experience with native black Bostonians has been a mess though. I went to get my hair done and all the black places I was referred to and picked out of the phone book said they didn't "work with that texture." I was here for less than 2 weeks before I decided to get a relaxer.
Haha! Yea, Louisiana has it's problems. Traveling is somewhat of a hobby of mine since I have been fully self-employed - and I've done a lot of it within the US and abroad and I'd take Louisiana over Boston and over a lot of places I have been to or lived. It's just a personal preference. Of course there's no place like home (the other LA). LOL.
By LA, I meant Los Angeles actually. Never been to Louisiana so I can't judge it from any first-hand experience. Los Angeles is a nice city, but for a city in oh so forward thinking SoCal to have so many major racial tensions (with some leading to blow-ups), it's surprising when you look at it from an outsider's view. New York and Boston definitely have their problems, but I'll take both over living in Los Angeles.
*Sigh* Yea, I figured you were talking about LA which is why I didn't comment b/c I don't think you know what you're talking about. Like I've said before, LA isn't utopia so I'm not sure what you want. Sounds like some hate. LOL. But as long as no one is calling the dudes I date nigger lovers and I don't have to get a relaxer I'm straight.
LA is forward thinking - the OC and SD are not. If you had spent any real time here, you'd know more about it instead of making general, sweeping statements, but that's cool - I do the same when talking about other places. I am gonna Stan for my hood all day everyday so it's pointless that we keep going. You have an opinion and I'll respect that - even it's wrong.
I think if we ever met, we'd have some great conversations.
blackmistressdiva, ireland isn't a poor country at all. it has one of the highest qualities of life in western europe.
racism is a problem there, though not particularly worse than any other western nation. it's also the romanians (and other eastern europeans) who get the worst of the racist abuse.
