• A white man's being persecuted for a crime a black man committed? Well, that's a twist on an age-old theme. [WFTV]
• South African airline Comair is being accused of racism by critics who say they failed to hire black cabin crew members because they couldn't swim. [SABC]
• Plastic surgery really shouldn't kill you. [HP]
• Seriously, with the nooses? There are so many other racist symbols out there. Go to a library or something. [NOTP]
huh? how are the Jena 6 influential people? having been treated unfairly = being influential? i don't get it. they're not exactly walking in the steps of Dr. King, if you know what i mean. why are we making celebrities out of these kids? that, to me, seems like the worst possible outcome in this situation. well, i take that back. how about the second worst possible outcome?
Essence is so borderline. I am always on the verge of canceling my subscription. The same tired articles and then they do stuff like put Usher and Maneka on the cover or they give props to the Jena 6 for being influential people.
The only magazine specific to black women that I love 100% is Heart & Soul and I've been buying it from the counters because every other one I love ends up getting canceled. I've whittled down my large collection of mags to Glamour and I'm still stealing my friend's O.
I was in jena for the march, and we pretty much took over the town to stand against the excessive charges. In that sense i agree the jena 6 were influential this year. If essence gives the boys props in the article then ok, but acknowledging the influence of their story (mobilizing thousands of black ppl for a cause), i get that.
