I swear when I was in college, one of the text books that I had for a phonetics class pissed me off so bad that I mentioned its contents to my professor. We were on the subject of 'African-American Vernacular English' (a topic which personally kinda pisses me off). We went through one section where they had examples of AAVE and the sentence said something like "We about to get our hair done at the beauty shop". I swear to you all, the next sentence was something about eating bar-b-que.
I mentioned the obvious stereotypes in the text and the professor completely agreed. He said that as a Jewish man he'd seen similar stereotypical things in books that made him mad (he was an awesome professor, btw). I figured that stuff like that was probably prevelant in the books for courses that I was taking since Speech Therapist in the U.S. were 97% white females. That's only 3% left for men and minorities!!
