• Aww, isn't Finland sweet. [YLE]
• Now chancellors at South African colleges are having a hard time admitting that racism exists on campus. Umm… [Times]
Thanks for the NYT link. I am surprised how many folks don't know about us (black Jews)in North America. I am (so is my entire family), my friends, my partner, my dentist, etc…(none of us have converted; we were born into the faith). Yet in the media, all I read about is how Jewishness=whiteness. Not so. Never so.
Americans seem to know about Ashkenazi and Sephardic Jews but not Mizrahi Jews.
I know more about Ashkenazi Jews because I studied genetics and they have a lot of genetic illnesses. It's sad. They should marry those in the other groups more.
Shit, one of my best homegirls is an Italian jew. Although I was AWARE that jews come in all flavors, I had never met an italian one. It actually kinda tripped me out for a moment. She's still a Long Island guido through and through however - which is why she's on my team.
NYC is full of pizza bagels. I know several from college though it generally involved a Jewish woman marrying an Easter-Christmas Catholic Italian men. It completely puts to the rest the bitching from my friends at Hillel who complained that men didn't want Jewish women. The Jewish guys seemed to gravitate towards the Asian women. It was refreshing to hear another group complain about this. Mmmm. Those free fresh lox and bagel were responsible for at least half of my junior year 40.
…or do Italian men just like a challenge/project?
leaving this one to bmd
Challenge yes. Project no.
