  • $400 million donations to schools like Columbia University perpetuate privilege instead of spreading the wealth, says the president of HBCU Philander Smith College. I think that's the point. [IHE]
  • Black men and women still prefer lighter-skinned mates, according to a recent study. We needed a study to tell us that? [BCW]
  • Jim Jones associate Stack Bundles was shot dead in Queens yesterday morning. [BH]
  • Widely considered the father of African cinema, Senegalese filmmaker and writer Ousmane Sembene died at his home in Dakar at 84. [IHT]

"$400 million donations to schools like Columbia University perpetuate privilege instead of spreading the wealth"

Isn't that what an alumnus typically does? They donate money to the school that they graduated from!!!

The Columbia donation is being specifically allocated to financial aid. Nothing wrong with that!

RIP Stack. Dude was nice, just could never get on. Finally signed with the Dips earlier this year, but never got to release anything other than a few mixtapes. His insistence on remaining in the hood is what ultimately did him in. Dudes need to realize that you can't be eating in the hood when other people around you are starving…the jealousy will eventually cause those around you to act out in a way that you often aren't ready for. The key is not turning your back on the hood, but that doesn't mean you have to remain there.

Words from one of his friends: "He was never no bully, no troublemaker," Zakee said. "He wasn't no punk neither but he just did his own thing and it seems like once he started doing his thing and people noticed that he got signed to Clue and he started messing with Dipset and got real close in the Dipset circle, a lot of jealousy started to pop."

When describing his last encounter with Bundles, the Pitch Black emcee recalled warning Bundles of getting too famous for the hood.

"It's ironic because the last time I seen him I was driving up the main block in Far Rockaway and he was coming out the gas station," Zakee remembered. "I was like, 'Yo I'm proud of you B, I'm glad you doing your thing.' The last thing I told him, I said 'Yo son, you doin' your thing. It's time for you to move out the hood… you're looking too good to be out here.' He was laughing, he was like 'Yo, I know but I love it out here I just can't leave.'"

RIP Stack…I just hope people learn from these mistakes that our young black males are making…SQQQQQQUAD UP!

I'm not a fan of "high yellow" toned skin at all. I tend to be attracted to men with my skin color. As narcissistic as that sounds, it is perfect. Think Tiki Barber.

Maybe dropping "Philander" would help and being very visible a la the "black ivies." They're not necessarily better. They understand the art of self-promotion and hook up their alums just like Columbia.
