The whole deabte over what race the lead sculptor in the Dr. King memorial project undermines the teachings and philosophies of the great minister and civil rights activist. I think its childish and this debate will only be a detriment. i,m 18 now and i'm an artist, this sculpture better be up before i'm 30. Gilbert Young and his ranting is reminiscent of the xenophobia that existed when the first chinese imigrants came to the u.s. and even more similar to the rascism and disrcimination we as african americans felt. Young is subverting the ideologies of Dr. King and ultimately making his fight worthless. What happened to judging not by the color of skin but by the content of one's character. remember the dream gilbert young.

Is he Chinese-American or Chinese? If he's Chinese-American, I don't care. I do take issue with hiring a Chinese sculptor though. It's as absurd to me as American flags made in China. So not only are American businesses leaving but our government refuses to support American businesses?

People need to pick their battles. Not everything that raises your brow deserves to be fought over. Even if he's Chinese, I'm not going to be yelling and screaming about it. If you're always yelling about something, people learn to just tune you out and assume that you're unstable.

I'm confused as to why there is a problem with a chinese sculptor doing it?

I grow tired of hearing about the Ebonics debate. They act like black people are speaking a totally different language. Simple bastards.
