MTV has put out a casting call for their newest shockingly ill-conceived reality show, Model Makers, which will feature young girls being judged on how well they slim down in order to prove their love of the catwalk. So disturbing, but not anything new for reality television, which as of late actually seemed to be pulling back from the precarious brink of MILF Island.
My mother felt that modeling classes were a better way for me to fix my incredibly slouchy posture. I had no interest in modeling. I was 13 and well aware of the fact that I was at least 50% heavier than the 2nd heaviest girl there. This was in 1997 when Kate Moss was very in but the glamazons were even more so. Here I am in a room with a middle aged woman giving tips on basically being anorexic. I think that's were I learned the concept of "skinny-fat" as she used to use this term often while referring to us 12-14 year olds. I watched Thin, the documentary last year. I found some of the behaviors eerily similar to both what I'd learned in modeling school and what I'd learned from my mother.
