Monkey Business

Japanese cell phone company eMobile has pulled an ad featuring a suit-wearing monkey at apolitical rally surrounded by posters with the word "Change" on them. Supposedly, the point of the commercial was to convince cell phone users to "change" from their current provider to eMobile. But the suited politician/monkey combined with the word "change" caused many people to come to the conclusion that they were trying to parody Barack Obama's race (instead of just Barack Obama). The company CEO described it as a "cross-cultural gap issue," but decided to stop running the ad out of deference to African Americans living in Japan. [Guardian]
