Mother's Little Hero Defies Doctor's Expectations

update.jpgAfter little Alexis Goggins was shot six times trying to shield her mother from her murderous ex-boyfriend, doctors thought she had little chance of walking, talking, or being a normal little girl again.

Fast forward five months, and the little hero is walking, talking, and being a little girl again — as much as you can really go back to being normal after being shot six times and losing your eye. Robin Roberts caught up with Alexis and her mom on Good Morning America yesterday, and Alexis looked happy to be on television. Children can be so much more resilient than adults. [ABC]

What happened to the fool who had the gun? Her mother needs counseling to allow such a person near her or her child. She should thank God every day for giving birth to such a little soldier.

I flinched a little when she said she loved her daughter to death.

Thank goodness. Ugh. I feel for women in abusive relationships but the only emotional reaction I can gather for mothers in such relationship is anger.

Best not let this happen again. If you don't love yourself enough to not even get into such a situation, you need to love your child enough.

I remember this story. I believe that this is another case of a single mom putting her "needs" before her child. There's no reason why a guy one's randomly dating (who happened to be crazy) be able to just show up at one's home.

Furthermore, this child is mentally retarded. I do not believe that she jumped in front of her mom to shield her. This girl probably didn't even understand what was going on. I believe that her mom grabbed the child and used her as a shield. I remember reading when this happened that after the child was shot, the mother ran into the gas station, leaving her child in the vehicle with the ex-boyfriend/shooter. Wouldn't a real caring mother call for help from the vehicle while making sure that her child was still alive?

This mother is pathetic.

Lady P, I have a mentally handicap brother, and he was protective of our mother when we were growing up.

i think it quite ridiculous to blame the mother for her EX-boyfriend's criminal behavior in this case.

that said, this little girl continues to break and repair my heart.

I'm not blaming the mother for her child getting shot. I'm saying that it is wrong to stay in an abusive relationship (which she was in for a while), especially when you have a child. It's not specific to this woman. If you don't love yourself enough to leave the first time he raises his hands at you, it becomes more difficult and more dangerous to leave after that unfortunately.

Daria

In a lot of instances when the woman leaves the man he tries to kill her.
