New York Gov. David Paterson on race and the… race: "I think the Republican Party is too smart to call Barack Obama 'black' in a sense that it would be a negative. But you can take something about his life, which I noticed they did at the Republican Convention – a 'community organizer.' They kept saying it, they kept laughing. I think where there are overtones is when there are uses of language that are designed to inhibit other people's progress with a subtle reference to their race… At this point, Americans wouldn't tolerate a racial appeal. What I'm saying is that there are sneaky ways to try to hurt someone."
Wow. Makes sense actually. I can see it (no pun intended).
So is "community organizer" the new "Canadian"?
Does make sense, just like elitist is the new word for Uppity Negro.
great comment by paterson. i saw him on jon stewart's daily show and they were cracking me up.
I agree with Governor Patterson. This isn't a surprise though; the Republicans are the party of The Southern Strategy. So this is right up their alley. I'm sure the ever evil Karl Rove had something to do with this.
Lol@Nicole
Interesting interpretation, makes sense.
I like my new gov'nah
I can imagine the republicans on a brain-cell-share-programme who came up with this one.
"Let's call him a community organiser! How dare he
organised (helped, informed) his community! Surely this is proof he is the spawn of the devil."
This makes serious sense…
