Nigger No More

Someone at Def Jam finally figured out (or knew all along and were just trying to get the maximum amount of publicity first) that naming an album Nigger is pretty much setting yourself up for poor sales and major issues with retailers. So after all the hype, Nas’ newest album, which hits stores July 1st, will simply be called Nas. Nas said that he considers the album untitled.

“It’s important to me that this album gets to the fans,” he told EW.com. “It’s been a long time coming. I want my fans to know that, creatively and lyrically, they can expect the same content and the same messages. It’s that important. The streets have been waiting for this for a long time. The people will always know what the real title of this album is and what to call it.”

Now what’s he going to do with all of those t-shirts he had made?

Lest Nas forget, Bill O’Reilly will remember what to call the album and him too. I hope he remembers that it is never wise to give people an opportunity to call you out of your God-given name. The whole “we are taking it back” is such a tired argument. I feel sad for Nas.

This whole thing was so moronic. How do you take back a name you never created in the first place? Stupid!

The whole point of Nas’ argument for using the word nigger is not to simply “take it back.” Nas ultimate point is to hook “the masses” with the shock value of the name, then to show them how much more they are than this hateful word. It’s so sad that free speech in this country is not truly free. It’s also sad when the so-called “educated” are just as simple-minded as those who they look down upon.

Despite the fact that many of you may not think that Nas is capable of thinking this through to try to make an album to uplift his people, listen to his latest leak from this album “N.I.G.G.E.R. (The Slave & The Master)”. Remember that some people are really in the music biz to teach and not just to entertain. Hip hop was like this once, but hopefully some are willing to take the lead.

Word to ill Mami, I couldn’t have said it better. If it was anyone else, then it would be the taking it back argument, but Nas is not nearly that simple minded.

I agree with ill Mami and Eric T. I don’t think Nas is so simple minded. He may have not been successful with this effort but I understood what he was trying to do.

I personally would not have called the album the N-word, but I understood what he was trying to say. Hip-Hop has so much garbage now that its refreshing to see someone try to make it political again. Actually try to make us think instead of always trying to make some stripper drop it like its hot. I really want to hear the album and draw my own conclusions.

Oh really!

How could we take something back which was never ours to begin with.
