No Affair Details From Edward Brooke

bwalters.jpgBarbara Walters openly discussed her affair with married senator, Edward Brooke, in the 1970s, but there's been no word on whether or not the now-88-year-old man knew that she was planning to out them. Based on the following quote, maybe not:

"I have had a lifetime policy and practice of not discussing my personal and private life, or the personal and private lives of others, with the notable exception of what I wrote in my recently published autobiography, `Bridging the Divide: My Life,'" he told The Associated Press.

Meanwhile, the Washington Post has the book, in which Walters wrote that Brooke often told her that she was the oldest woman he had ever been attracted to. She wrote that she always wanted to say, "Oh yeah? Well, you are the blackest man I have ever been with," in response. Thank god for internal censors.

I wonder if Barbara Walters would have told all her adulterous business about some living white man in Washington… like Henry Kissinger or somebody… or if she would have chosen to respect him, his family, his legacy & the memory of his wife.

I don't care about that J. I also don't care about her outing him because he chose to cheat and I seriously doubt it's the only affair he's had. McGreevey's threesome with wife and other dude? Same thing. As a public figure, he needed to not do anything that would be damaging to his marriage, his image and also, the memory of his wife. Does it make him a bad politican? No, it makes him a good politician. A bad person? Nope. Does it make him a bad husband? At least a little.

J, I don't love her or even respect her anymore (for the View, not for this) but she would NOT let HK get it.

Hmmm. My money's on she *has* let HK (and others) get it. I bet she ran through through Washington with her skirt on fire.

I dont want to unfairly assume Barbara's sexual proclivities to be stank, but considering the times– the 1970s– the "sexual", "drug", "female", and "racial" revolutions, (not to mention how wild and undisciplined people in power just were & are,) I would sincerely doubt Brooks was the only highpowered married figure in her life.

And I have a different view on self-disclosure– that is, to the best of our ability in our lives, we are always to do good and never do harm. If she wants to tell her dirt (for reasons known only to her— perhaps an end-of-life soul cleansing? book sales? vanity? tv ratings? — well, she certainly can tell her mess without involving anyone else in it. What good does she do by telling her story this way? How is this helpful to anyone this way? Why now? For what purpose? Nope. The path she has chosen of dragging others into her mess only brings pain, shame and embarrassment. That's selfishness on her part. Bah.

This is just used cleverly to inject misogeny into the public sphere as Obama makes his bid for the White House. She ain't slick. Plus she IS a Clinton Supporter.

Networks are already calling Edward Brook the "Obama of his day." Be more cynical people.

FM, that was my initial thought, too– that this "scandal" involving the only Black senator of that time would, by association, encourage Americans to question the morality of the only Black senator of our time. Why now? After nearly 40 years? Why? And is that the only thing in that book? She's not stupid. She's a member of the media. There *is* a point.

It is not "crazy" to think beyond the obvious. Most people are capable of analysing complex arguments. Clearly blackmistressdiva, you aren't one of them.

Wow!

Obamanuts see conspiricies everywhere!

Not everything is about that slick fucker. Barbara wrote a memoir of HER LIFE, and I see no reason why she should omit an incident involving a black politician, just because he was married.
How this is supposed to make her a stank ho trying to bring down Obama is beyond moronic.

I think it is disgraceful for Barbara Walters to be bragging about comitting adultery! She broke up this man's family. She knew he was married before she even met him. And now, years later she disgraces him, his family, his legacy….and she excuses it by saying he was in a 'bad' marriage. She is a homewrecker….she was responsible for spoiling his marriage. I feel sorry for the Brooke family. And have lost all respect for Walters.

I don't think this is a rascal issue. I think it is a morality issue. Barbara admitted to an affair with a married man, getting her first job because of her legs, sleeping with a boss, and lying to the VIEW audience regarding Star Jones's bypass surgery. I think her ethics as a journalist and her morality as a human being (as she has shown no remorse) is questionable. She has been a role model for so many women, and what does her book now tell women? That it is o.k. to do what you what regardless of who you hurt. That women have nothing to offer except sex? Senator Edwards is not without fault in this affair, so he is not a victim. However, Barbara Walters' behavior of selling everyone "down the river" for the sake of money (including her reputation and respect of countless women who admired her for her accomplishments and who thought she got there in a dignified, respectful manner) is appauling.
