Despite the millions of dollars the Bush administration is throwing their way to teach an abstinence-only curriculum, some states are starting to realize that an abstinence-only education might not be the best way to teach our young people about sex and STDs. A program that offers federal dollars in exchange for teaching an abstinence-based sex ed program in schools is losing popularity in some states because many have doubts that it "does much, if any, good." When the teen pregnancy rate in Idaho rose between 2004 and 2006, officials decided to drop the program. [HP]
The STI rate for places with and without these programs are identical though there are more virgins in places with abstinence only education. By "virgin," I mean people who haven't had vaginal sex. Unprotected anal sex is a popular replacement for the "virgins."
i went to a private school that taught abstinence only… I'm fresh out of college and about half my class has children… need i say more. and abstinence only would hurt the black community the most.

I too went to private school too and about one third of the class had babies within a year and a half of graduating. Even most of the young ladies at my church have kids. People need to be realistic when they talk you teenagers about sex. Abstenance is good but tell them about protection & birth control too.
