Prior to the Iowa Caucus, the newspapers loved to write stories about how black people didn't support Barack Obama because they didn't want him to get assassinated or didn't think American would vote for him. Now that Obama has won Iowa and has carried that momentum into New Hampshire, black people, even those who still don't plan to vote for him, are getting swept up in the Obama moment. The New York Times complied a bunch of quotes about Barack Obama's Iowa win from blacks across the country. Discussing Obama-As-President is definitely premature, but there is something great about the reactions of older blacks who never thought that they would see something like this happen in their lifetimes.
Go Obama! Go Obama! Go Obama!
I read that Hillary is "crying" in public now… Not realizing that there is no crying in presidential elections OR baseball.
That's ODrama spin. She didn't cry. It's called passion. She's listening to the idiots who tell her she must show her soft side. I've never heard of a man having to have a soft side, but women must be all things to all people…as usual.
As for crying in presidential elections…you should tell the Second Coming to stop "crying" about Hillary being negative. Oh…I forgot…he's perfect.
Way I see it some black folks would swear the Clintons were the second coming. They are bold enough to compare all their tomfoolery and saxphone playing to characterisitcs of our race…as if that is a compliment.
I am so over Hillary. Now we are using tears?
Hillary is in a lose lose situation no matter what she does. The national media hates her (quite irrationally I might add), and uses everything she says or does against her. I'm so over her constantly being labelled as "ambitious" (code word BITCH), as if the other men running for President are'nt ambitious as well.
As far as Obama goes, I will vote for him if he manages to get the nomination, but I still don't think he's ready for primetime. I hope he really wants this, because if he becomes President, he's gonna have to be off the chain great, or he'll be the first and the last black President.
You know the bar for him will be set on the fucking moon.
If Hills is listening to the media and needing to show her soft side it's her own fault. She played the gender card and she didn't play it right. Let alone it's all desperation. You don't see Obama going with his race first do you? Hills shouldn't have made her change being about a 'woman'. Her crying is her knowing she's failed. Her negative remarks have helped Barack on the same level they've hurt her. Her 'experience' is Bill's, and what Barack lacks at the moment he'll make up through this process.
What will he make up by being given a free pass? What will he make up by not giving specifics and having no resume to speak of? We are fighting the Republican machine. Do you understand that?? Do you think we have time for people to make up what they lack. Remember that statement when Romney is being sworn is an president with his 7 wives beside him. Pretty words do not a good president make.
@Lola - Only fools say things like BC was the first black president. I am not in that camp. I read, listen and involve myself in politics versus regurgitating shit that I've heard someone say on TV like those who swear he black characteristics. My point is GWB was "fresh" and offered to "bring us together" and you see how that's gone so far. Not so well, huh? On the other hand Al Gore was stiff, robotic, too smart, not funny enough and not warm enough and yet we ALL see how trivial those things are now, don't we? We all wish Al was president, but we got fooled. I have sat in a room 2x with adults who have cried like babies b/c we've lost two elections after we all worked 16 hour days on behalf of our nominee…and I don't want to do that again. This time I am sticking with my heart - Barack's history making be damned. And that's my last word on this primary. You all know where I stand and it's getting silly (besides… I just chipped a nail typing so fast). Beauty first!
I don't recall Hillary running as a woman. If anything, she's been doing everything possible to present a facade of toughness. Her tears today are the first sign for many that she's even human.
Barackhas been getting an easy pass for a long time, and part of the reason is because of his race. Who wants to be the first to go negative on the black candidate? Hope is great, but he (and his star struck supporters)if he thinks that will help him get anything done in Washington.
During the last debate she stated her being a woman basically represented change. That would be equal to Obama talking solely about his race as change. I can't see how Obama is given a free pass. His lack of experience and years is talked about just as much as anything negative on the other candidates. If he had slipped up as badly as Hills had, he would be taken to task but so far what is the reason for anything other than how he is treated now? The only people using his race are those who either don't believe or are star struck in the other direction. That's fine, but Barack's race isn't an important issue, nor is it something that is hindering him. So with that you get talk about his experience. Hills has it. Rudy has it, McCain has it. All the candidates have some sort of experience and they are the same types who have been elected and nothing has changed in this country. I'll give Barack that chance. The Republican machine would win outright with Hills as the Democratic candidate and if some want the losing kind of experience as the norm, so be it.
In 1992, Bill Clinton didn't win a primary or caucus until Georgia, which was March 3.
February 10: Iowa -Harkin easy win
February 18: New Hampshire -Tsongas win
February 25: South Dakota -Kerrey’s only win
March 3: Colorado, Georgia, Maryland; also Minnesota, Idaho caucuses -the latter two go to Harkin; Colorado to Brown, Maryland to Tsongas, Georgia to Clinton
As we all know, he won the nomination and 8 years of the White House.
Ok. I SWEAR that's it. I just had to get that one off of my chest. The fat MAN has not sung yet, babycakes.
I am a little annoyed at Hilary Clinton. I think she's using being choked up as a way to get her votes, which is okay, if thats how she wants to work her campaign. But I saw her on the news in the New Hampshire, stating "we don't want to go back", I immediately thought she was talking about Barack Obama, her competition. I hope not. Having Barack Obama as President would be going forward. In the beginning I really wanted Hilary Clinton and Barack Obama to be a team, the ultimate democratic team that would help with America's problems, but with the way the campaign is going, it doesn't seem possible. To be honest, Its not that I don't like Hilary (Belive me, I've waiting for the day that a woman will be president of the United States) but if I had to choose, it would be Obama. I am a woman and an african-american but I have to think, when people see me, do they see me as a woman or just being black.
At this point it's not even a Hillary vs Barack thing. Unlike Hillary there isn't a desire to tear someone within the same party down. I think most who call themselves Democrats have a favorite - each for their own reasons. However when all is said and done the Democrats want a Democrat in the Whitehouse and probably feel that person will be better than Bush and better than any of the current Republican candidates. I prefer Barack, I think the Dems will have a better shot with him and the country domestically and internationally will prosper, but if it's Edwards or even Clinton, a Democrat will get my vote period. So we will see.
One last note. I think it's truly disrespectful, condescending and unfair how Barack's race is used to his detriment. Where are the calls that white peopel are voting for a particular candidate because they are white. That women are voting for Hillary because she's a woman? Why are black people the only ones who constantly and consistently get logged with the race card as their only determining factor for liking a candidate? Is any black person's wish to see a black president or their liking of a black candidate any less in quality than that of a white persons wish to see Hillary or Mitt? In the case of Hillary/Mitt/Edwards their race (and gender) is never repeated for discussion.
Oh, please, will it really be BMD's last word?
Awww. That hurt my feelings. I'll try to go on though.
