John Kerry officially endorsed Barack Obama in South Carolina today. He had a few words to say about his guy during a Charleston rally.

“Who better than Barack Obama to bring new credibility to America’s role in the world and help restore our moral authority?” Mr. Kerry said, speaking at a rally at the College of Charleston. “Who better than Barack Obama to turn a new page in American politics, so that Democrats, independents and Republicans alike can look to the leadership that unites to find common ground.”
Mr. Kerry, a Massachusetts Democrat who was the party’s presidential nominee in 2004, said he was endorsing Mr. Obmaa’s candidacy because he believed he was uniquely situated to inspire “millions of Americans to join together and come together in a movement” to demand real change in Washington.

All I take from what he said is "pray to god that Barack Obama can do what I couldn't." I'm praying that whoever wins the nomination can do what John Kerry couldn't, frankly.

I worked my ass off (read: getting called a "nigger" and an "abortion bitch" in Nevada and having a dog sicked on me in Ohio) for John Kerry - more than I did for Gore or Bill actually due to the circumstances of him not being as well liked or having the name recognition as Al or Bill. I don't have anything bad to say about him, BUT there are big factions within the party who see him as a lame duck for conceding and letting the republicans run all over him. I don't know if this endorsement does Obama much good, but it basically kills John Edwards who was Kerry's running mate. FYI - Kerry wasn't happy that Edwards decided to run for president and Kerry also isn't big on the Clintons. His spite of Edwards and Hillary has been palpable in the last couple of years.

I have little respect for him. Yes, the republican attack machine is going to stick it to you. ANYONE else would have handled it better. He let them run all over him, especially the Swiftboat people. Um, if I risked my life going to Vietnam and saving people's lives, you will be damn sure that I would have come harder at them than he did. If you're right, you get OFFENSIVE, not defensive. He didn't even seem adequately pissed. Not saying this would have won him the white house, but at least come out swinging when they pull the BS they did. That plus the whole "John Kerry will ban the Bible" thing that Rove & co. pulled on him. He didn't handle himself which is why he lost. I didn't vote for Kerry in 04. I voted against Bush. I didn't do any door to door anything. He's not worth it.

BMD, I volunteered with PPGC for 3 years. I would NEVER do anything door to door there. I called people for civil union and reproductive health issues that came up. No f-ing way I would ever go to someone's house. First, people carry weapons there more due to their concealed weapons law. Second, while de facto segregation and racism are very present in the mid-Atlantic and New England states, no one here is willing to go to jail for you so no one's going to physically attack you. Not so in Ohio. The Boston Globe will run wild with any story of a hate crime. The Plain Dealer, IF they cover it, are going to send the message that the n—-r went to a white man's house looking for trouble. No thank you.

Door-to-door doesn't bother me. I've done canvassing in other elections and I've also done voter registration door-to-door. I'm used to getting the Jehova's Witness treatment when I show up on some one's doorstep, but, dude, Nevada was the WORST! I was stumping for Kerry on behalf of Planned Parenthood so we wore our red Stand Up For Choice shirts. On top of that we were canvassing in heavily republican areas looking for independents and undecided voters. I have too many crazy stories from those days to list, but let me tell you…it was hard having to take lip from whities who had a billion ATVs, broke down trailers and dog shit in their front yards. Needless to say at the end of each night, I hit up the liquor store.

John Kerry is a loser. He had his ass handed to him by the Bush/Rove attack machine. He should have trounced Bush in that election, but instead he rolled over and played dead.

Both John Edwards and Hillary Clinton should be breathing sighs of relief. This guy just gave Obama the kiss of death.
