It was a big week for Mariah Carey — she lost her single status and her No. 1 spot on the Billboard 200. In her defense, there was really no competing with Madonna’s Hard Candy.
Also debuting new albums last week were Lyfe Jennings, whose Lyfe Change debuted at No. 4, and the Roots. Their album, Rising Down, debuted at the No. 6 spot. I haven’t listened to it yet, but from what I hear, it’s definitely better than it’s spot on the charts suggests. But that’s just the way it works in the music industry.

I had to look it up, Estelle was #38!! Her CD is really good. I was going to buy The Roots last week and ended up only buying Estelle’s and have had it on repeat on my Ipod all week. I’m gonna get The Roots this week, gotta support real music!!
After listening to a few tired tracks, I’ve decided to pass on Hard Candy. As a gay man, this is equivalent to high treason. I fear for my life.
Hard Candy is sweet!
Madonna always delivers the goods, and i’m glad it was her that knocked Mariah out of the top spot.
Let Nick touch her crap.
The Roots! The Roots!!!!
There is no secret that I am a huge Mariah fan, but I am not feeling this new stuff so much. I don’t like Madonna, but I’ll give it to her that she’s still making hits. There is just one thing…the picture on this CD is bothering me. i don’t know, I just don’t know what she was going for.
You’ll enjoy the Lyfe Jennings CD. It’s sometimes tragic, sometimes comic, and always soulful!
I think I’ll check out the Estelle on ITunes this week.
Swetdiva- please puy the CD. The artist don’t profit much from Itunes.
Don’t feel bad, JM - Madonna’s emoting her best black girl: “Go ‘head”, “C’Mon nah” is treason to music itself (haha). Pharrell must have been staring at his check the whole time.
Yes Lauren, The Roots album is hot; I gotta give em their props! And their concert with Erykah…amazing.
