It really would have been too much to ask for Nas to have planned something intelligent to say prior to walking the red carpet with the word "nigger" written across his chest. Unfortunately, any mild amusement I got from watching the reporter squirm was completely negated by Nas' cringe-inducing responses.
what an idiot! now everyone is a nigger? what is he talking about? you can't force someone to believe that they should feel like a 'nigger', whatever that is supposed to feel like.
errr!
?
and the sidebar from a Raspy Lauryn Hill…I mean Kelis…
Kelis was just mad that they didn't acknowledge her and I guess she wanted the opportunity to say she called a white woman an N-bomb. Pray for the children…
Is it me? Didn't think he sounded dumb at all. Not exactly eloquent either, but I appreciate that he wasn't dishing out pr-ready sound bytes. Luv Kelis' input, too! Damn, I love that couple.
What we didn't see was that reporter afterwards saying:
"What the HELL was that? I'm not getting paid enough to do this shit."
^^Uhh..no.
She probably said, "Oh my God, I just looooved that niggers glasses! It's ok to say that now, right? Right?"
And how many BET watching white teens will catch beat downs because of this? SMH.
Gorgeous Black Women
…or maybe that's the goal.
Gorgeous Black Women
Hopefully this will deter thinking people from believing Nas is anything but an idiot. Because he is. And it should be on his tee shirt. And on his album. And on Kellis'. Toxic idiots.
I haven't heard white teens say it since I was in high school, but I hear latino and asian kids say "nigga" on a daily like they really know what's up with the word. I've even heard them say it in the presence of older blacks which very much angers me. These kids have no idea what is coming out of their mouths so I doubt they'll be part of any dialog that Nas is trying to start.
From a political and cultural standpoint 2008 is going to be crazy!
i have to admit that this is the first time ive heard nas in an interview. ive been a die-hard fan of the first two albums even though i got out of hip hop a long time ago. anyway, im absolutely speechless at his intoxicated response to wtf is up with his mfing outfit. "not only black people are niggers now, its also you and me"??? a black day for black people. white kid billy calls malik a nigger. "no, i was just talking about the new nas cd."
BMD,
That or she said 'Dumb niggers'.
I love how the reporter stuttered after he said, "it's about you."
She was looking at him like, "Bitch, please! I am not a negro. Don't you ever get it twisted– I am 100% caucasian and privledged".

What. The. Hell. Was. That?
Personally, I think it does make sense, because if you think about it, a lot of people have been discriminated against and what I get from Nas is that hes using the N-word as a metaphor for anyone who's been discriminated against or who is still being discriminated against. While I personally disagree with the use of the word in daily speech, much less as an album title, I think that his intentions are good and seem thought out, even if he did go overboard with the outfits.
I thought about it, and Nas and Kelis are still stupid.
Good find…hadn't seen that clip. Nothing they said made any sense and they're exploiting the word for shock value instead of making a difference - stupid.
And Kelis has a history of racial slurs (and being arrested for them!)…these two are doing the opposite of what they claim they're trying to accomplish.
@ Eric
I was thinking the same thing at first but I just found the outfits tasteless. And Nas' incoherence really bothered me.
I watched the "Women Are the Niggers of the World" video and thought that Nas was borrowing from what John Lennon's Blk politician friend said [any disenfranchised person (non White hetero males) is a nigger]. I'd like to believe that Nas was driving at that but, I'm not so sure.
