OJ Gets All-White Jury In Kidnapping Case, Defense Charges Discrimination

From the Los Angeles Times: "Nine women and three men, none of them African American, were selected as jurors in O.J. Simpson's kidnapping and armed robbery trial Thursday, prompting the defense to complain of racial bias. Lawyers for Simpson and his codefendant, who is also black, charged that African Americans were being systematically excluded after the prosecution removed the lone black panelist who had been in contention for the jury… [Clark County District Judge Jackie Glass] rejected defense motions challenging the exclusion of the individual African Americans and another motion challenging the entire jury. 'There has been no evidence to me that the state has made a purposeful discriminatory effort to eliminate African American jurors,' the judge said, noting that two black alternates remain."

No matter your feelings on OJ, this is fucking absurd. As we all know, the question of his guilt was split directly down racial lines. For the Vegas court to seat 12 white people, especially 9 white women, reeks of being overturned in a higher court once the case has been decided.

Were there no available black people in the jury pool? And don't give me the bs that 2 of the alternates are black.

BlkMale, all the Black people were busy. All 13 million of them. Busy.

(yep, from newborns up to 105.) Busy.

(yep, even the ones in prison.) Busy.

That appears to be true.

The problem the last time was that there was too lenient, so he got away with killing a white woman. No more.

I remember exactly where I was when they found OJ not guilty. I was in my Milwaukee high school sitting in my world history class when all of a sudden kids in the hall started chanting the Juice is loose. I remember kids running to their lockers and getting little radios and Walkman out so we could all listen to the news. I don't remember ever discussing whether he was guilty or not, what was important was that the "system" found a Black man not guilty. I still don't have an opinion on whether he did it or not, but this jury stirs up old feelings, feelings that may lead me to rejoice again if he's found not guilty.

Well, you reap what you sew and "chickens come home to roost" as Wright (quoting an American Ambassador) would put it ………

I remember where I was in I heard OJ was found not guilty. In hindsight this is ridiculous. I was in college attended a career fair in one of the ballrooms on campus. Picture it, a ballroom full of potential employers with their tables of information and backdrops. Bright eyed students, including myself, in our suits holding our resumes that still included our highschool accomplishments. And, no less than 12 televisions, specifically set up in different areas so that the verdict could be heard when it came.

So blkmaleperspective, you're saying white people aren't his peers?

I'd definitely say a juror pool of all white people are not his peers. But as someone said before, their just looking for this decision to be appealed if they keep it this way.

A jury is supposed to be a fair cross-section of the community, taking into account race, gender, age, amongst other factors. I don't believe this is a fair cross-section of the Clark County community. He would have been better off having a bench trial and letting a judge decide his fate. But I'm sure this was the State's motion for jury.

I'm actually thinking that OJ must have a massive head injury at this point in his life. He should have taken whatever he had left(and not try to STEAL it back by force…) and just moved to Puerto Rico or the Carribean or something. I've never seen someone so determined to have the ENTIRE country angry at him again!!

He really should have moved out of the country a LONG time ago if he wanted some peace. White people will NEVER forget that he "allegedly" killed two of them and walked(due to fact that justice has a price tag, after all). It's reap-what-you-sew time for the juice.

It doesn't matter what happened before because no one knows what really went down. However, that didn't stop thousands of white people from becoming really upset and a few of those upset people are going to overlook the facts for this case and attempt to punish him for the crime he was acquitted of years ago. This is an opportunity for their revenge and his jail term will be outrageous for the current alleged crime. Trust.
