BET.com has officially gotten rid of its "B-Girls" section, which has received a lot of flack from bloggers — specifically What About Our Daughters — and BET protesters for its objectification of women.
The "B-Girls" section encouraged women to send in appealing photos of themselves, with many featuring them in risqué clothing and suggestive poses. The photos were sometimes accompanied by a listing of bust-waist-hips measurements.
The "B-Girls" content is unrelated to any of BET's on-air programming. It was simply intended to boost traffic and interest for the Web site, BET says.
BET claims that the removal of the B-Girl feature, which officials compare to something you'd see on America's Next Top Model or in Sport's Illustrated had nothing to do with blogger protests. Somehow that seems unlikely. [MP]
As long as the chicks weren't naked - I don't care if they are up there. I mean, the Jet Beauty of The Week has no place in that mag either.
But overall I know that this is a good step for BET.
Unrelated: have y'all seen the footage of Amy Winehouse smoking crack? That biatcha is gonna die any day now!
Re: Amy. Wha?! Where?
I don't really think the online bloggers had anything to do with it. Since when did they start caring about what bloggers have to say? They probably aren't losing any viewers so what's the incentive to change? I'm guessing Viacom or whoever it is that owns them had something to do with it.

Amy is going downhill…fast. I hope she gets some help soon.

I think pressuring their sponsers who pride themselves on family friendliness had something to do with it. Kraft removed their ads and admitted to using poor judgment.
Amy's gonna OD sooner or later.
I would really like to meet Gina the Warrior Princess, over there at WAOD.com. She's really killing the game out there. She's like the new Angela Davis, revisted.
Go 'head!
