They make a good point. WTF does a fashion writer who works in the bubble that is the fashion world know about what is a "do" or a "don't" in the non-fashion world? To be fair to Glamour, they feature lots of women with exceptionally well coifed 'fros, though I don't ever recall seeing dreads. Of all the mainstream fashion magazines, Glamour is the one that seems to acknowledge or feature non-white women on a regular basis. Their women's health expert is black. Mariane Pearl has a standing column. They have make up tips for women of various skin shades.

They feature lots of non-white prominent people (Oprah, Condi Rice, Lisa Ling, Salma Hayek, Queen Latifah, Lucy Liu, Rosario Dawson seem to be in every issue along with Angelina, Ashley Judd and Hillary). It's one of the few magazines that I've read consistently since my early teens and it's gotten a lot better and a lot smarter covering issues that affect our lives directly (domestic violence, divorce, being widowed, cancer, being earth friendly, career and money) and indirectly (sex slavery, honor killings, drugs in Colombia and the people fighting it, and generally encouraging stories of women overcoming a lot of hardships). And it manages to do this without causing depression or being preachy.

You know you're in trouble when the mayor of your city looks like Suge Knight. I have never been to D-town, but maybe I should visit. When the mayor's wife is whoopin' some stripper ass…it's time for bmd to check the place out. Haha!
