Anyone that makes sweeping judgments of an entire race of people is ignorant. Would he be ok if someone said all black men were uneducated, violent thugs b/c they were just raised different? JB819, I was raised very differently from my brother which is why all we have in common is our appearances. I wasn't allowed to play sports, piano lessons were stopped when I couldn't read music, I was forced to study all day and take part in what today would be Kumon classes, and from the age of 13, I was responsible for all domestic responsibilities except for grocery shopping…which might explain why I am unable (=unwilling) to do anything domestic myself anymore.

My brother could play sports all day, was beat a hell of a lot more than I was and almost all were unwarranted, could eat without someone rationing out particular quantities of food, could be in plays and play on every sports team and was never stressed academically.

I'm not saying one is better than the other or that even this represents the norm for black kids. It's definitely the norm in my family though.

I personally do not agree with Polow's comments, however it is interesting to see everyone's reaction. Isn't the purpose of difference in views to show that you are different yourself. I just watched several of you make the same ridiculous comments that he did about black men. First of all dont be so quick to generalize black men by saying that our black families dont have a man in the house to show them the proper way to be. I am a single father of two and I wont say "black families dont have a mother in the home to show them the right way." Each person is an individual but unfortunately there is a such thing as majority. There are a lot of classy, intelligent, hard-working black women out there and I respect them. Unfortunately sometimes the whole of black women are judged by those women who get so caught up in being independent, that they allow that to destroy the qualities that attract us to them to begin with. As a black woman I agree with picasso NO 23. We as women regardless of race, success or independence we have to allow a man to be a man.
