Rep. John Lewis, a well-known Civil Rights figure, Congressman, and Hillary Clinton supporter, told the New York Times yesterday that he would cast his vote as a superdelegate for Barack Obama. In other words, there's no way in hell he is going to incur the wrath of his Georgia constituents because of a political relationship he has with Hillary Clinton. Smart man.
Mr. Lewis, who carries great influence among other members of Congress, disclosed his decision in an interview in which he said that as a superdelegate he could “never, ever do anything to reverse the action” of the voters of his district, who overwhelmingly supported Mr. Obama.
“I’ve been very impressed with the campaign of Senator Obama,” Mr. Lewis said. “He’s getting better and better every single day.”
Lewis is joined by other black lawmakers who have recently announced they would not go against the will of their districts in their roles as superdelegates. But many are also coming around to Obama's side because of the recent success of his campaign and his ability to unite. Ever the understanding candidate, Hillary Clinton's rep says she understands that Lewis was under "great pressure" to switch sides. He could make a formal endorsement within days.
It would make sense to do so. He needs to vote the same way his district votes.
I agree. Isn't he "suppose" to represent his district, his constituents? He says it like he's doing them a favor.
Politics, I tell ya. SMH
