One of my good friends just got back from touring with Saul Williams. His stories about traveling the world with the poet/writer/musician inspired this morning's Rewound, a tune called "The Bottle," from one of my favorite black poets, Gil Scott-Heron.
Wine's a little more expensive than the $1.09 it used to be, but it can still be just as damaging, which, unfortunately, keeps this track timely. That it's still amazing is all the work of Gil.
Gil Scott is da man. My favorite black male singer/poet by far. The man deserves a Rewound ost:)
The first time I saw GSH was in 1980 at a Stevie Wonder concert where he opened for Stevie. THE BEST CONCERT EVER!!!! Then I saw GSH in the 90's, in a small club, just himself. All of his appearances were the bomb. Would that some of these younins go back to the past and learn something from this master. Wish he was still putting out music today.
