Hmm, this somehow calls to mind yesterday's Who's Your Caddy premiere and all of the recent issues with BET, but I can't imagine why? Oh yeah! It's the classic issue of black entertainers needing to dumb things down and play off of stereotypes to be appealing (or successful). Anyway, Robert Townsend called it way back in 1987 in Hollywood Shuffle, the movie this famous clip* comes from.
Twenty years later, most black actors in Hollywood are faced with the same dilemma.
*Thanks to Racialicious for reminding me of this!
"Twenty years later, most black actors in Hollywood are faced with the same dilemma."
Unfortunately, for most of them there is no dilemma. They already act that stupid (ie, 50 cent, Tyrese, etc.)
