Lionel Richie, who, based on how his daughter Nicole turned out, probably won't ever be winning a Father of the Year Award, gave a little insight into his parenting philosophy after his performance at the Essence Music Festival Saturday.
"She keeps apologizing to me," Lionel Richie said. "I told her, 'You're doing exactly what you're supposed to be doing to your father at this age.'"
The R&B star said celebrities today are under more scrutiny than ever before.
"There's just so much information out there right now _ MySpace, cell phones, the Internet," he said. "If we had had all that when The Commodores were around, God only knows what my mother and father would have seen."
That's how you feel, Lionel? Ask my dad if, at my age, I'm supposed to be getting hopped up on Vicodin and weed and driving the wrong way down the freeway, and I strongly doubt he would say the same thing.

Why are you shocked? He's always very blase about her her sh*t.
But then again, she has done worse even when the cameras weren't in her face. She was in A LOT of trouble for heroin a few years back. If I were her mama, a baby, a little liquor and some vicodin wouldn't seem so bad when you compare it to the rest of the things she's done.

Um, $1000 for laser hair removal and $150 for electrolysis? Is she a f*ing gorilla?
After reading all 9 pages of that, it is very clear why Nicole is the way she is. They didn't raise her. A private school, a nanny, a therapist and staff brought her up while her stepmother shopped and her father toured. I'm surprised that Lionel has money like that. More power to him.
P.S.: I'm sure there is someone on staff hired to deal with Nicole's issues. If not, I'm available. My rate is $25,000 per month.
