Stereohyped's New Look
A Makeover Story

changes.jpg

No, your eyes are not playing tricks on you. Stereohyped has gotten a makeover, one that you will hopefully find to be as aesthetically pleasing as it is user friendly. The biggest change you'll probably notice is the "feature block" at the top of the page. It's our way to highlight Stereohyped original features, breaking news, and most talked about items.

Thanks to the malleability of the net, the site's look is always a work in progress, so let us know what you think (especially any bugs you come across). We appreciate feedback!

I've been trying to figure out what bothers me about it. I thought it was that the size for the entries is too small and that I hate the new headlines font, and while I do think those are little problems, the biggest problem is those two huge (well, huge at 1280×800, which is standard 14.1" widescreen laptop display resolution) gray columns on the side. Could they go back to being purple and the size they used to be?

The dashed lines all around the site marking the divisions are actually somewhat distracting. That's very minor, though. I liked the colored comments a bit better, it's somewhat harder to differentiate between them now. The username font's been changed to a different one and made smaller, so the names are harder to read. Perhaps if the font displaying the usernames was bigger and there was more whitespace between the comments? Like Racialicious.

For reference on how it looks on my monitor, I uploaded these:

Other than those things, it looks nice. I like the Sidebar a lot better, it's much more readable.

Contrats on the new design. As you've said, the Net makes it always a work in progress. I've only been blogging for about 3 weeks and I've already changed my design twice and I'm still not done. Thanks for all the work to make it more readable while spotlighting your exclusives.

I just wish it was a different color between the posts or something to make the posts look more divided. The white makes it all seem to run together…just my opinion.

The placement of the new banner ad, located at the top, seems like a random design afterthought.

I don't really like it. The background is too bright. You couldn't pick another color besides white? I guess I just have to get used to it.

M.Alpha covered a lot of my thoughts. The font changes will take some getting-used-to. For me, the biggest thing is the lack of distinction about separation of the posts. Maybe darker the dotted line in between or make them a little bigger?

Also, for some reason I'm much more aware of the ads now. Good for you and your advertisers, I guess but annoying to me, lol.

I mostly agree with what M.Alpha said. Not too crazy about the gray on the sides or how narrow the screen suddenly seems. Were the scroll posts at the bottom always there? If not, then yay to change.

Stereohype's new look reminds of Queerty's design. The background is too bright. I really liked Stereohyped's old desgin better. However, I do like the "feature block" on the top of the page.

Arrrrggghhhh! OMG! I cannot believe it! You devilish people! What have you done with my favorite motto! Is it hiden behind the commercial banner?

Humm Humm (back to calm-clearing my voice) : Can the large purple space under the feature block be reduced and used to give the blog banner more space ? (follwing n° 5). Following n° 7 on the "one-enormous-post" new aspect.

WHY do people, brands and websites have to reinvent themselves all the time? the old look is always better. boingboing changed a few months ago and now this. youre supposed to be based on content, not (questionable) aesthetics. LAME! -.-

Lauren, I really loved the old one a lot better. The posts now seem to be a little too close together and I preferred the old fonts. That said, I do like the new sidebar quite a bit! And, as always, your content is unmatched :o)

I'm ok with change, I guess, but what happened to the by-lines? As an admitted Stereohyped junkie, I can tell the difference between a Cord and a Lauren post, but still.

1) So glad you changed that awful grey back to purple/maroon
2) darken the dotted lines or something between posts; they all run together
3) by-lines please
