T-Pain Leads In BET Award Nominations

t-pain.jpgWith five nods, T-Pain leads in the list of 2008 BET Award nominees, which were announced on 106 & Park. When T-Pain leads in nominations, that clearly says something about the state of music and the state of BET.

"T-Pain is everywhere," BET Executive Vice President Stephen Hill told The Associated Press. "He's got five nominations, none of them for his own work. He's had a great year; he's introduced a new element." That new element being not actually needing to sing in order to become wildly successful.

Kanye West was nominated for three awards. If BET knows what's good for them, they'll give him at least one of them.

The BET Awards show is a joke. I don't need to watch it when it airs because they will be playing it all year long.

Can this man sing with out a synthesizer? That was cool in the 80s. Again can we makes room for cutting edge, singer/songwriters. That actully sing.

T-Pain leading nominations is just evidence of one of the reasons I can't watch BET. Do they even play real music?

They need to change the 'Collaboration' category to the 'Best T-Pain Collaboration'. I'm so sick of vocoders that I've even stopped listening to Zapp. This is all wrong.

The one good thing to come out of this is that after everyone's finished showering T-Pain with awards, we won't hear from him and his bloody vocoder again *hopes*.
Is it me, or does he seem like one of those whote-hot and ubiquitous artists that's very 'of the moment', only to struggle to retain any semblance of relevance in about 1-2 years' time?

I glad to say I have no idea who T Pain is. I have been trying to ignore this corporate rap stuff for a few years now and it seems to be paying off!

the only way for black people to stop being shown as caricatures of ourselves is to take some initiative and show us in a different light for a change. I know the powers that be run most of it, and because of that they want to keep making money off of us and such, but damn. I'm black and i don't listen to any of the artists listed above (with the exception of Rihanna at the clubs, and Erykah).

How about some VARIETY. There are so many black artists out there making wonderful rock, alternative, and blues albums, not to mention intelligent Hip Hop Artists like The Roots, and Lupe Fiasco.

What a joke.
