My preferred method of visualizing how long ago something happened is to imagine how old children born directly after an event would be today. In the case of 9-11, those kids are probably in first or second grade. I remember it like it was yesterday. And the New York Times today showed how hard it is to forget when you live in New York. A slide show on its web site shows photos of how images of the twin towers in the NYC skyline still creep up everywhere. |

From the Boston Globe: "One of the most enduring taboos in American politics, the airing of graphic images from the September 11 attacks in a partisan context, died today. It was nearly seven years old. The informal prohibition, which had been occasionally threatened by political ads in recent years, was pronounced dead at approximately 7:40 CST, when a video aired before delegates at the Republican National Convention included slow-motion footage of a plane striking the World Trade Center, the towers' subsequent collapse, and smoke emerging from the Pentagon." He was, of course. It took so long for him to contact us because he and the rest of the medical personnel at the Pentagon were immediately dispatched to the scene to help with recovery.
