The Casting Game
Will Smith is America's Sweetheart, the actor "we can believe in," even if he gets on people's nerves sometimes. That's probably why Barack Obama said he would want the erstwhile Fresh Prince to play him in a movie. Of course, the Obama-supporting Smith told Stephen Colbert he was waiting for him to "finish writing the story" first. Get it? Anyway, with Will Smith getting top billing, I took it upon myself to cast the rest of the Election '08 story, which I can totally see actually getting made at some point in the near-ish future. Let me know your casting choices in the comments. CONTINUED » |
![]() Dr. Bassett
• Wait, Reverend Wright had the chance to rip out the heart of a white devil and he didn't? Curiously, that goes against conclusions I would make based on what they say on cable news shows. [Wonkette] • This is really just more than I ever wanted to know about David Banner. Also, I've always hated the way "pipe game" sounds. [NB] • Star and Al divorced because Al made Star pay for everything. Well, naturally. That's how arrangements like theirs work. [C&D] • 50 Cent continues to convince people that they want to buy the stuff he's selling. [MTV] |
![]() ![]() Thandie Newton is in final talks to play Condoleezza Rice in Oliver Stone's George W. Bush biopic, W. Odd choice for Condi, but the entire movie is an odd choice, if you ask me. Who's a better choice? I can see Angela Bassett rocking that hairdo like a pro. [EUR] |
![]() An emotional Angela Bassett received her star on Hollywood's Walk of Fame yesterday, with her Waiting to Exhale director, Forest Whitaker, her Meet the Browns co-star, Rick Fox, her husband, Courtney B. Vance, and, of course, the Ike to her Tina, Laurence Fishburne, on hand to celebrate the occasion with her. "Today my cup runneth over. I am crying now, I cried yesterday and the day before," she said during the reception. "Who would have thought that a little girl in pigtails from St. Petersburg, Florida, would grow up to find herself gazing at a star with her name on it, on the Hollywood Walk of Fame? This day is so, so special to me." A kind, smart, good actress whose name is not Halle Berry gets some positive attention? It doesn't happen everyday. |

Honorees and High Tea
Elie Wiesel, the holocaust survivor whose book, Night, had a resurgence of popularity after Oprah Winfrey included it in her all-powerful book club, honored my favorite talk show host (and yours) this weekend for her humanitarian efforts. Say what you will about the self-congratulatory way with which Oprah leads her life, she deserves the recognition she gets. Angela Bassett was also an honoree this weekend at a high tea (hence the funny hats) for Victoria Rowell's foundation for foster children. Courtney B. Vance was in attendance to support his wife, but 50 Cent was curiously absent. You think he might not enjoy high tea at the Beverly Hills Hotel? |

LOVE, Fashion, and Hair
Wonders never cease! Serena Williams made her second good fashion choice of the decade at the Louis Vuitton Party of LOVE in New York City last night. And if she's ever in danger of a relapse, The Fashion Bomb has some tips to help halt her downward spiral. I think our Serena's gonna be okay! Take a look at some other great (and questionable) fashion statements from last night's parties after the jump. CONTINUED » |
