One Reason Not To Put Your Kids In Show Business

Gary Coleman got into a small tiff with a "fan" at a bowling alley that resulted in Gary hitting him with his car. Evidently the man, Colt Rushton, was trying to snap a cell phone picture of Gary and his wife when Gary got upset. He does realize that instead of getting angry he should be thanking his lucky stars that someone still cares about him, no?

The argument reportedly escalated into an all-out brawl, complete with Gary throwing punches and his wife stealing Colt's cell phone. For the grand finale, Gary reversed his truck into Colt, knocking him to the ground and hitting another car in the process.

angry-kanye-west.jpgIf you thought Kanye Wests' enrollment in anger management therapy sounded too good to be true, you're right. West squashed the rumors on his blog before they got out of hand, although now that the idea's out there in the universe, his management might get some ideas.

Now the media is saying I'm going to anger management something or 'nother. I have never had any conversations about anger management. If anything, I need anger enhancement!! lol!

My first reaction was to be disappointed, but then I realized that a Kanye in control of his emotions is not really Kanye. Also, angry, pouty Kanye is better for business. After the jump, see what we would miss out on if 'Ye actually went to anger management. Those online rants we love to hate aren't the only things we stand to lose.

angry-kanye-west.jpgIt might be too late, but Kanye West is apparently making moves to improve his reputation so that his online, televised, and in-person temper tantrums don't get more attention than his actual music. Rumor has it he's heading to anger management.

"A West insider tells me the entertainer’s own management team dreamed up the idea, for two reasons: to help his personal psychological well-being and relationship with friends — and to aid him in snaring lucrative endorsement deals," Zwecker wrote in Thursday's edition… The source tells Zwecker: “Not only has Kanye estranged himself from some pretty important people in the music business, but his temper has driven away a number of longtime friends.”

And let's not forget, his anger has seriously endangered his MacBook Air. Let's not forget about the MacBook Air. [EUR]

naomicourt.jpgAt this point, I'm not sure how hard up for work one has to be in order to accept employment with known-abuser Naomi Campbell. On the other hand, going to work for her might be part of some elaborate plot to get horribly mistreated — both physically and verbally — and then retire with a nice settlement from the notoriously furious model. Ex-housekeeper Ivona Lovas hit pay dirt after Campbell made her life "a living hell" during the four months she worked for her. They've settled out of court.

Perhaps they came to a nice agreement after playing a late night trust game together. I've heard Naomi likes to do that.

Parking Lot Prejudice

shoppingcart.jpg“The Good, The Bad, And The Ugly,” is a series in which we highlight your stories — be they good, bad, or ugly — about being black in America. We all have different experiences, but you can bet there is always someone out there who can relate to your stories. A reader sent in an account of a parking lot encounter. Have a similar tale? Would you like to share and/or vent about a moment when you’ve been proud, delighted, ashamed, or discriminated against based on your race? Send it to lauren AT stereohyped.com with the subject “Good Bad Ugly.” And I welcome the good stories! [Note: Still waiting for some of those positive stories, readers!] There’s already so much ugly in the world.

My boyfriend and I were verbally lambasted in the East Meadow, Long Island parking lot of Walmart last month. Why? Because a White man was honking his horn at me, yelling angrily for me to move a shopping cart out of his way so that he could get into the parking space it was in.

Mind you, I did NOT put the shopping cart in the parking space in the first place (we had only just gotten there and parked, ourselves), and the man (who arrived mere moments after us) had ALREADY parked in another space. But, the fact that I, with my Black self, refused to move the cart when he ordered, and had the audacity to give him attitude, angered him to no end! My boyfriend had to tell him off, because he was clearly trying to disrespect me, saying I was no better than the "jerk" who left the cart there in the first place! He carried on about wanting the parking spot; and, when my boyfriend told him he should've gotten out and moved the cart himself, the man screamed that he was handicapped and needed the space (which was no closer to the store than the space he was already in). Um, then why not park in one of the many handicap spaces that were available? "Because my car is a rental," he screamed. What a nutcase!

From the inbox:

Cord, in 2001 you stated in your essay that you joined a predominately white fraternity and only dated white girls….but you have the audacity to act upset when some of the Black students talk about you negatively. Why didn't you join a black fraternity? Why didn't you date black girls….and no, not just light bright and darn near white black girls….because I know your type tends to project a European ideal on black women. It sounds like you suffer from the same thing you criticize in others. Cord, did you finally come to the realization that you were a black man because you knew you couldn't pass for white?

Ironic use of "audacity," no?

Remember his peace-loving character, Shazza Zulu, on A Different World? Not so true to life, as it turns out. Gary Dourdan does not enjoy being filmed as he enters and exits clubs, which I think is a sentiment echoed by about half of the celebrity population. Unfortunately for the physical well-being of the paparazzi, a few of these celebs decide express this dislike by beating down cameramen. Dourdan is one of them. Next time, he should stop, count to ten, and think, "What would Shazza Zulu do?"
