The View hosts got in the election spirit today, and each of them dressed up as a past POTUS. It should come as no surprise that Elisabeth Hasselbeck chose Ronald Reagan.

Predictable Politics

The New York Times endorses Barack Obama:

"As tough as the times are, the selection of a new president is easy. After nearly two years of a grueling and ugly campaign, Senator Barack Obama of Illinois has proved that he is the right choice to be the 44th president of the United States. Mr. Obama has met challenge after challenge, growing as a leader and putting real flesh on his early promises of hope and change. He has shown a cool head and sound judgment. We believe he has the will and the ability to forge the broad political consensus that is essential to finding solutions to this nation’s problems."

Elisabeth Hasselbeck will campaign with Sarah Palin:

"I was called by the McCain campaign and Governor Palin asked me to be with her this Sunday to introduce her at the rallies in Florida," Hasselbeck said of campaigning with Palin in the hotly contested Southern swing state.

Hasselbeck said, "I am more than honored to be there, so I will be flying there to travel with her and meet some pretty interesting people, I have a feeling. So, that's an honor and I'm excited to do it and I'll have some stories I'm sure on Monday."

It's hard for Elisabeth Hasselbeck, being, as she is, the lone person at The View who is actually troubled in any way by the fact that Barack Obama has made the acquaintance of William Ayers. Yet, somehow, despite being scorned by Whoopi, Barbara, and even Sherri, she manages to deliver those GOP talking points.

» Hasselbeck Stays

Bad news for Hasselbeck-haters: the rumors that Elisabeth Hasselbeck, The View's lone Republican voice, was leaving the show for more conservative pastures at Fox News, are not true. "While Elisabeth [Hasselbeck] has a great relationship with Fox News, there is absolutely no truth to the rumor that she is leaving The View," her agent said in a statement on Thursday. "Elisabeth is passionate in her beliefs and enjoys being a part of this dynamic group of women and engaging in daily conversations." If Barack Obama stays up in the polls, all Joy and Whoopi have to do is stick it out until the November 4th… [Us]

Hallelujah!

Elisabeth Hasselbeck, the most insufferable member of the View family — and that's hard to be — might have had enough of being the lone voice of conservative "reason" on the panel of liberal ladies. Rumor has it she might be leaving… of course, the second part of the rumor is that Fox News might be looking to hire her. Sherri Shepherd will be the only one to shed a tear. Says Cindy McCain Has "Nothing To Hide"

Elisabeth Hasselbeck made an obvious appearance last week at the Republican National Convention, where she gave a very obvious speech trashing Michelle Obama and applauding Cindy McCain. Liz wanted her audience to know that when Obama came to The View she had a list of topics she didn't want discussed. Apparently, Cindy McCain had no such list because she has "nothing to hide." Of course, it never occurred to Hasselbeck that McCain knew from experience that no one would ask her questions about her drug addiction or about stealing from her charity to fuel said drug addiction. And no one did. Instead, she was given the opportunity to answer to a charge that she stole a recipe from the Food Network. Michelle, who has nothing in her past that in any way approximates the skeletons in Cindy's closet, has been attacked by the media time and time again. A thinking person wouldn't blame her for trying to exert some control over the rumor mill. Plus, if Michelle Obama had something to hide, we'd have heard about it long ago.

Meanwhile, Sarah Palin, whose opinions count for far more than Cindy McCain's or Michelle Obama's ever will, continues to hide from the media. Unlike loyal TV personalities like Hasselbeck, real journalists don't "behave" well enough for Palin's liking.

After the jump, see that sneaky Michelle Obama dancing on Ellen's season premiere yesterday.

Picture it, the women on The View are discussing the dreaded n-word. Whoopi Goldberg is explaining why black comedians use it and why they should be allowed to — she's very frustrated. Elisabeth Hasselbeck doesn't understand. She starts to cry and seems to make the argument that we can't move forward in race relations if black entertainers keep using the word. I roll my eyes. Barbara is uncomfortable and interrupts. If you can't picture it, check out the video after the jump.

APROPOS OF NOTHING The View is on right now, and the ladies are discussing Obama and Wright. Elisabeth Hasselbeck makes me want to throw something at my TV, and I really like my TV. Carry on.

obamaview.jpgIf I had any doubts that Barack Obama is my candidate for president, the fact that he was able to refrain from slapping Elisabeth Hasselbeck during his visit to The View today just erased them all. I think that must have taken a presidential amount of restraint. Of course the ladies, especially Barbara Walters and Hasselbeck, wanted to talk about Rev. Wright and had every right to do so, but all Hasselbeck did was ask questions he had already answered and prove, unequivocally, that people of her ilk simply don't care what Obama's answers to their Rev. Wright questions are unless it's, "I will never speak to him again, and I hope he burns in hell."

Incidentally, the women asked him about how he plans to avoid being swiftboated a la John Kerry, and he said the trick is to answer truthfully and forcefully, but also quickly, which is where Kerry went wrong. Whoopi Goldberg asked him what the first three things he would do in office were and he said, get out of Iraq, make health care happen, and solve the energy crisis, with some economic crisis management in between.

At the end of the segment, he added that Michelle Obama had no interest in becoming involved in presidential politics, but when they told him he should come back, he was like, uhh…maybe you should invite Michelle instead. Going on The View twice in a campaign is too much, if only because Joy Behar and Sherri Shepherd both looked like they were plotting to rape him backstage and Barbara Walters actually referred to him as "sexy-looking."
