![]() ![]() The first glimpse of Beyonce as Etta James on the set of the new movie Cadillac Records is here, and she looks pretty much like Bey in an Etta James wig. Last month, Etta showed a lack of confidence that the prettiest pop star in all the land could play someone as gritty as herself, and this first look might be sort of proving her point. But, of course, it's all in the performance… In other Bey movie news, she starts filming a thriller called Obsessed with Idris Elba — as her husband — and Ali Larter this summer. If you're wondering how this new role came about, I should add that Beyonce and Mathew Knowles are executive producing. And while Jay-Z's probably too cocky to be worried, he might want to watch out for those upcoming intimate scenes between his woman and Mr. Elba. Just sayin'. |
![]() Common and Chris Brown, two of my favorites, bonded at yesterday's LA premiere of Chris Brown's family holiday movie, This Christmas. A large portion of black Hollywood was also there — maybe because a large portion of black Hollywood is in the movie. More pics after the jump. CONTINUED » |
![]() As T.I. moped around his jail cell Friday (I imagine), American Gangster, which he costarred in, premiered at Harlem's famous Apollo Theater. And who needed TI? The rappers were out in full force, from (a hatless) Common and RZA, who appeared in the movie, to Method Man, who I guess was the RZA's date, to Jay-Z, who used the movie as an excuse to come out of retirement once again, to Diddy, who is, uh, from Harlem. More pics after the jump. CONTINUED » |
![]() This holiday season, the theaters will be showing not one, but two Christmas movies with all-black casts. No, they're not Tyler Perry productions. No, they don't look particularly wonderful, but they are nice family films filled with brown faces. An alternative to American Gangster for the kiddies, if you will. Check out the trailer for The Perfect Holiday, starring Gabrielle Union opposite Morris Chestnut (an age-appropriate love-interest), above. The Chris Brown, Regina King, and Idris Elba (!) movie This Christmas will also be in theaters next month. This post has put me in a very premature Christmas-y mood. Great, now I'll be humming Donny Hathaway for the rest of the day. [BV] |
