The brand new Las Vegas outpost of Jay-Z's 40/40 Club is not in the rapper/mogul's long term business plan. He sold the 24,000 square foot club for an undisclosed amount. The 40/40 franchise has been nothing but trouble lately for Jay, who has fielded several lawsuits from disgruntled employees. [UPI] |

Money They've Got
Rappers who are millionaires undoubtedly got to that level of financial success in part by making songs and living a lifestyle that calls attention to the fact that they're millionaires at every possible opportunity and in very possible way. As a result, it should come as no surprise that any of the rappers (and producers, and one singer) who made Forbes' biggest earners in hip hop list made it into the top 20. What might be a surprise is how many millions they actually made in the last 12 months. For instances, Chamillionaire more than lived up to his name. Of course, the number one earner was 50 Cent, thanks to his Vitamin water windfall. Check out the list after the jump. CONTINUED » |
» Money Ain't a Thing
The New York Post is reporting that rapper turned record mogul Jay-Z is currently in talks with the Las Vegas Sands Corporation – owner of the Venetian – to sell it a 50 percent stake in his 40/40 nightclub company. The deal is allegedly worth $44 million. |
» No Matter How Much We Try, Jay-Z's Not Talking
Jay-Z and Beyonce, like most celebrities who want at least a fighting chance to keep their relationship intact, believe that certain things should be sacred. This is why he's never, ever, ever going to talk about his marriage to Beyonce, although he will flash the wedding ring to paps on occasion. "I just think it's really a part of your life that you gotta keep to yourself," he tells Vibe in their September issue. "You have to have something sacred to you and the people around you," the 38-year-old adds. "I shared so much of my life⦠I should have something to hold on to." [Us] |

» 40/40 Employees Want Their Money
Life is full of ups and downs. Jay-Z just had an up — despite the naysayers, he performed a successful set at England's infamous Glastonbury Music Festival. Now for the down. A judge just ordered Jay-Z and co to hand over the names of every 40/40 club employee over the last three years to make way for a class action lawsuit. The original suit was brought on by a former employee who said the NYC branch of the club did not pay her overtime or minimum wage. As of now, between 10 and 20 former employees have joined the suit. » Glastonbury Hearts Jay-Z
For all of the criticism and protesting and rumors of poor ticket sales, several news outlets are reporting that Glastonbury headliner Jay-Z "wowed" the crowd. In honor of Oasis's Noel Gallagher, who was quite vocal in his disapproval of Jay-Z's participation in the festival, Jay entered the stage to the tune of "Wonderwall." Amy Winehouse was apparently very good too, despite having the lungs of an 80-year-old, lifelong chain smoker. [Reuters] |

» Damn, Yankees?
What's the point of having hundreds of millions of dollars if you don't buy things? None! Which is why Jay-Z, who already owns a portion of the New Jersey Nets, is looking to purchase shares in the New York Yankees.
