Mommy's Night Out

Sports royalty and new mom Laila Ali joined Sanaa Lathan, Paula Patton, and others at a Burberry store opening in Beverly Hills last night. She looks happy to be out of the house.

Speaking of mommies and store openings, Garcelle Beauvais walked the red carpet at a Catherine Malandrino opening in Los Angeles last night, as well. Sanaa Lathan hit up that party as well, and even managed a wardrobe change. That's dedication.

Spring '08 Fashion Week

samfine.jpg
It was the era of the Supermodel — you know, when they all went by their first and last names but certainly didn't need to — think Naomi, Christy, Linda — and claimed they didn't get out of bed for less than $10,000 a day.

New York Fashion Week shows were more glamorous (read: they weren't sponsored by Olympus or Mercedes Benz and were held in lofts, clubs, and restaurants instead of tents). And Sam Fine was behind the scenes — at Geoffrey Bean, Fernando Sanchez, Tracy Reese, Todd Oldham, Isaac Mizrahi, etc. — giving the models faces to match their designer looks or rushing from show to show with Naomi and Tyra.

It was the first half of the '90s when Sam Fine both assisted the late Kevyn Aucoin and worked the shows on his own. Those were the good ol' days… that he doesn't really want to go back to.

"It's a fun gig, but I leave it to the young at heart and the ones that really love fashion," he told Stereohyped.

And it's not like being a celebrity makeup artist, which is the the job Sam Fine graduated to when he left the fashion show world, is any less glamorous. Or that much different.

Serena's Charitable Offering

  • Depending on who you are, you might find this photo of Serena Williams horrifying, titillating, or somewhere in between. However you feel, it was nice of her to bare all in Jane magazine for charity. [SR]
  • Tameka Foster found Chilli at Jonetta Patton's house recently and screamed, "Doesn’t your boyfriend have a mom you can visit?” I would have yelled back, "Don't you have kids you can go take care of?" [Bossip]

Displaying an unrestrained glee that Master P would have shown two seasons ago if he was able to express emotion, Clyde Drexler took his elimination from Dancing With The Stars as well as a Halle Berry takes a good movie review.

"I am extremely elated! I feel like I won the lotto! I don't think I've been this happy since I won the championship [in 1995]," the former Houston Rockets star told PEOPLE, laughing. "I was ready to go."

The judges saw it the same way. Last week, judge Len Goodman accused Drexler,44, of "not even giving it your best shot" following his disastrous waltz with partner Elena Grinenko.

Though Drexler squeezed in rehearsal time for this week's performance while abroad in China, his rendition of the passionate rhumba failed to cause sparks on the dance floor. "I know that you're a gentleman, but this was so polite it was like a rhumba under an anesthetic," said Bruce Tonioli.

I don't watch DWTS, but I can imagine you've got to be pretty bad if you are that much worse at ballroom dancing than a woman with no leg. Anyway, I'm rooting for Laila Ali, because she's the best dancer in the competition. Oops, did I just say I didn't watch the show?
