In hindsight...

In 1991, I seriously wanted Shanice to be my best friend. I thought she was so pretty, and for a brief time, that "I Love Your Smile" was the greatest song I had ever heard. I wondered why she wasn't a bigger star. In hindsight, I get that she wasn't really bringing anything that exciting to the table and was destined for one hit wonderdom (although she did have 1993's "Saving Forever For You). She also has a vocal range thats much more impressive than what she shows off in this song — she covered Minnie Riperton's "Lovin' You" on her first album.

La, La, La, La, La...

Hey, can you sing? If your answer is no and you ever want to clear a room quickly, sing this song at the top of your lungs. Trust me. I know.

Minnie Riperton, died in 1979, just four years after this performance. She was 31. Luckily she left behind a daughter to continue her legacy, although, instead of singing, SNL's Maya Rudolph spends her time in the spotlight being funny.
