Missy Elliott was kind enough to provide BlackBook recently with a list of things she hates, including taking her shoes off at the airport (don't we all, girl) and "minute men" (just like the song). Right. It's an interesting regular feature, if only because stars are a lot quicker to talk about the things they love and than the things they hate. Missy's new 3-D video premiered yesterday, and it's a typical Missy video. And by that, I mean it's great! Although the 3-D effect makes everything sort of fuzzy. Still, I always love a Missy video. It's probably the best thing to come out of Step Up 2: The Streets.

• A judge in Maryland is in trouble for calling three black public defenders "The Supremes" and telling a defendant that he needed to find an "experienced male attorney." [HM]*

I'm had an iTunes resurrection of Missy's 1997 debut, Supa Dupa Fly, recently. I had completely forgotten how in love with that album I was way back then and how much I enjoyed every, single song. Anyway, "Beep Me 911," was one of my faves, and it's particularly hilarious to listen to today. "Beep me 911 or call me on my cell phone," is a line that would never be written in 2007. Plus, 702!

P.S. Missy also just dropped a new single.

It's quite a rarity to have so many hip hop luminaries in one room, or one (Hammerstein) ballroom, as it was. But VH1 managed to cram as much talent as possible into their Hip Hop Honors show, which taped last night but airs Monday at 10 pm. Yes, there was a lot of talent there, but I don't count Tracy Morgan, who hosted the awards and couldn't quite get that teleprompter thing down. Could his SCRAM have been going off right about that time? No worries, I'm sure they'll have that all cleaned up by Monday.

I had the pleasure of spending the evening in the press room, where the honorees and presenters came back to chat. Oh, Queen Latifah. Doesn't she know she can't keep secrets from the paparazzi? She attended Missy Elliott's less-than-star-studded 36th birthday bash in the Hamptons Saturday but refused to let the photogs snap any pictures of either her or her lady friend. Well, it looks like they captured at least one fuzzy shot as proof she attended the event with her date, friend — whatever.
