Lebron James probably wishes that he wasn't so easy to lip-read. At last night's playoff game against the Celtics, Lebron was fouled by Paul Pierce. His mother (the sprightly 39-year-old in the white t-shirt) jumps up like she's going to do something, and James yells at her repeatedly and angrily, "Sit your ass down!" No one wants their mom interfering at work, but you also can't tell your mom to "sit her ass down." And on national TV, too! Later in the same clip, the clueless commentators go on to praise Lebron's grace and maturity. |

I know you have a tough job. I have a puppy, and that's hard enough. I can't imagine what it's like to be responsible for actual human beings. For some of you, like Kim Fields, new mother of Sebastian, and the proud, book-writing Donda West, motherhood is beautiful. For others, like beleaguered Melanie Brown and fired momager Jonetta Patton, it ain't always easy. I hope Usher sent the latter some diamonds or something for all of her hard work building his career. Probably not. I don't have diamond money, but I have a blog. So I want to thank the mothers in my life — my late grandmothers, Loretta and Audrey, my dear aunts, San, Deni, Debbiy, Tira, Cheryl, and Diane, and, last but not least, the greatest mother a girl could ask for, Andrea Williams. You're my best friend, and I love you more than words can express. Happy Mother's Day to you and everyone else! Lots of love, |

Buy your mom something nice
Mother's day crept up out of nowhere this year, and if you're like me (without a present or time to think about buying one) this gift guide put together by Tia Williams at Shake Your Beauty will steer you in the right direction (which is probably going to be toward your nearest Sephora). Here are some of my favorites: Origins Totally Ginger, $49.50 Ojon Shine & Protect Hair Ritual Kit, $50
Dean & Deluca Black and White Cookies, $30 For more ideas, Afrobella also has a great gift guide. But honestly, if you're broke and/or busy, don't underestimate the effectiveness of a thoughtful card and a bouquet of flowers. Your mom will appreciate the thought! [SYB] |
