The Media Is Biased... But In What Way?
It seems that liberals always think that the media is biased against liberals and conservatives always think the opposite. Recently, McCain has grumbled about media bias even though a recent study shows that the press treats him more favorably than Barack Obama. In your opinion, which way does the media generally lean? |
![]() Is The Media Really In Obama's Corner?

And We Know How Well That Worked
With all three evening news anchors in attendance, as well as the upper echelon of the press corps, Obama’s trip is being chronicled endlessly in newspapers and on television, with pictures coming back to the U.S. of Obama meeting with senior military leaders in Iraq and Afghanistan. McCain, meanwhile, is shown palling around in a golf cart with George H.W. Bush. The difference in treatment has “irked” the McCain camp. While McCain used to refer to the media as his “base,” he’s now sees a climate where the press is bending over backward for his opponent and leaving him in the proverbial dust. So what’s a guy to do? Complain. Except, as we’ve seen before, that isn’t the best strategy. |

How many ways are there to avoid actually calling a notorious, racist homophobe a racist homophobe in his obituary? Lots, apparently. [J-I] |

THE MEDIA NARRATIVE VS. REALITY In his New York Times column, Frank Rich suggests that the mainstream media might be mischaracterizing this presidential race in order to keep rating high. No! Writes Rich: "There are many ways that Mr. Obama can lose this election. But his 6-percentage-point lead in the Journal-NBC poll is higher than Mr. Bush’s biggest lead (4 points) over Mr. Kerry at any point in that same poll in 2004. So far, despite all the chatter to the contrary, Mr. Obama is not only holding on to Mrs. Clinton’s Democratic constituencies but expanding others (like African-Americans). The same cannot be said of Mr. McCain and the G.O.P. base. That story is minimized or ignored in part because an unshakable McCain fan club lingers in some press quarters and in part because it’s an embarrassing refutation of the Democrats-in-meltdown narrative that so many have invested in. Understating the splintering of the Republican base also keeps hope alive for a tight race. As the Clinton-Obama marathon proved conclusively, a photo finish is essential to the dramatic and Nielsen imperatives of 24/7 television coverage." |
