Nicole Richie, along with scores of other nicely-dressed women, attended the Crystal Lucy Women in Film awards in LA last night. So what if her actual movie-acting experience is limited to a role as a lesbian cheerleader in 2005's Kids In America. It counts!

Lionel Richie showed up to the last night's ASCAP Pop Awards with the only women in his life who will still speak to him, his daughters Nicole and Sophia. He sort of looks like he's presenting Nicole's post-pregnancy cleavage as if to say, "See! Boobs! No more anorexia!"

Five years ago, Lionel Richie and his daughter Nicole were posing for pictures like the one you see above. These days, Nicole is settled down with her rocker boyfriend and her newborn baby and Lionel is a grandfather. A proud grandfather.

"While it may take me a moment to adjust to being called grand dad, I am extremely happy and proud of Nicole and Joel," Richie says, referring to the birth of his granddaughter.

"Harlow Winter Kate Madden, the newest and most beautiful addition to the Richie clan, is a lucky little girl," he added. "She was surrounded by a great deal of love at that hospital as she entered the world. Nicole and Joel are going to be wonderful parents."

As long as this child stays far away from the chick on the right, she should be okay.

Cross your fingers; it's a girl. Nicole Richie and Joel Madden gave birth to a baby girl named Harlow Winter Kate Madden. She's 6 lbs, 7 oz., which is about how much Nicole weighed when the baby was conceived (Ha! I'm here all week, guys!).

In other baby news, Christina Aguilera had her baby boy Max Liron, David Alan Grier's wife gave birth to the couple's daughter, Luisa, and Monica had her second child, Romelo Montez, earlier this week. [CBB]

Nicole Richie and Joel Madden, along with grandma-to-be Brenda Harvey-Richie, who just might go to the same colorist as her daughter, launched the Richie Madden Children's Foundation at LA's Free Clinic yesterday by throwing a surprise shower for 100 expectant mothers and doling out more than $200,000 worth of gifts.

Amongst the goodies given to families in need were Baby Bjorn products, cribs, mattresses and toys from Fisher-Price. "Everything they got, we got," Richie says, "so everything that will be in their nursery, will be in our nursery."

Madden felt good about the event. "Sometimes people don't want to believe that me and Nicole are just a young couple having a baby and we're really excited. We don't really get to share our lives with people. It's nice to connect with people on a real level."

And I'm glad the cameras were there, so we can all share in all of this sharing. It is sweet, though, isn't it? I get really soft around Christmas-time.

Remember all that talk about Nicole Richie making a complete behavioral 180 for her unborn child? Maybe it was more like a 90 degree change.

According to the New York Post's Cindy Adams, Richie was seen smoking in public not once but twice in the past few days. If Nicole Richie is really smoking-while-pregnant, I'm more shocked that she has the balls to do it in public than the fact that she's doing it at all.

UPDATE: It turns out Nicole Richie was in Australia when the Post informant supposedly saw her smoking cigarettes on two occasions in New York City. Cindy Adams owes Nicole Richie a beer. Well, a few sips of one.

Some prospective grandparents buy their expecting children things like cribs, strollers, and high chairs. Others buy them a house to put all of their new baby stuff in. Lionel Richie is part of the latter group.

A source says, "She recently leased out her West Hollywood condo, and, while she likes living at Joel's bachelor pad in Glendale, she doesn't want to raise her baby in the Valley. Nicole wants to live close to both of her parents while she gets ready to have the baby.

Lionel wants Nicole to be safe, and he thinks a gated community is best." Reports suggest the Richies are currently looking at a $7 million villa in Century City, Los Angeles.

Just like Oprah getting the 21 pairs of Christian Louboutins from Jessica Seinfeld, all I can really say is, "it must be nice."
