The trailer for the new Biggie biopic, Notorious, has finally arrived. It looks more like a music video than a movie trailer, and that's probably not a good sign.

Mo Money

Despite what Biggie and Co. told me way back when, I've always felt that more money would solve at least a few of my problems. It's how you handle that money (looking at you, Lehman Bros and Merrill Lynch) that matters, right?

Chuck Philips, the Pulitzer-winning Los Angeles Times reporter who has devoted the latter part of his career to investigating the deaths of Tupac and Notorious B.I.G., has been let go by the paper. The official report that his departure is part of a "drastic" effort on the part of the paper to cut costs, and that several other veteran journalists will be leaving as well. I'm sure all of this had nothing at all to do with it. [AHH]

rayj.jpgWe all know Ray J is sort of opportunistic and self-centered and desperate to be more famous. He also has some interesting-but-troubling childhood stories. His parents were clearly busy managing his more famous sibling. He recently gave an interview to Rhapsody.com, and he explains how he was immersed in the Death Row scene throughout his teens, smoking copious blunts with Tupac, driving around with Snoop, and hugging Biggie the day he died (he smelled like soap).

He also spoke about his life today, the highlight of which consists of women on the road "putting H2O in their bodies and then having [it] shoot out like waterfalls." Fun! After the jump, check out what Ray J has to say about catching Faith Evans on Tupac's lap and hanging out with the Notorious B.I.G.

Long story short, I was within striking distance of Diddy last night but did absolutely nothing I always told myself I would if I ever got the chance to yell in his ear.

vibe_biggie_puffy.jpgConfronted with some pretty damning evidence in the form of a detailed article on The Smoking Gun, the Los Angeles Times printed an apology for a story in which it was alleged that Sean "Diddy" Combs and music manager Jimmy "Henchmen" Rosemond knew in advance about the 1994 NYC attack on Tupac Shakur that would become the catalyst for the infamous and deadly East Coast-West Coast hip hop beef. Pulitzer-winner Chuck Philips, who wrote the offending article, and his supervisor, Deputy Managing Editor Marc Duvoisin, apologized for the error-filled story, which relied on documents that TSG found to be forged by an imprisoned, delusional con man.

"In relying on documents that I now believe were fake, I failed to do my job," Philips said in a statement Wednesday. "I'm sorry."

In his statement, Duvoisin added: "We should not have let ourselves be fooled. That we were is as much my fault as Chuck's. I deeply regret that we let our readers down."

Diddy's lawyer has contacted the paper and, in a letter, explained his belief that the false story amounted to "actual malice," which means his client is eligible for damages in a libel suit. When the original article was published online last week, Diddy immediately denied the allegations. And he was actually telling the truth!

sabatino.jpgPulitzer Prize-winning journalist and Tupac/Biggie-nut Chuck Philips might have relied a bit too heavily on FBI documents for his recent big story in the LA Times, in which he alleges Sean Combs knew that Tupac Shakur was going to be attacked in NYC in 1994 before it happened. The Smoking Gun found that the FBI documents were forged by "James Sabatino, 31, [who] has long sought to insinuate himself, after the fact, in a series of important hip-hop events, from Shakur's shooting to the murder of The Notorious B.I.G.. In fact, however, Sabatino was little more than a rap devotee, a wildly impulsive, overweight white kid from Florida whose own father once described him in a letter to a federal judge as 'a disturbed young man who needed attention like a drug.'" Way to go, Philips.

According to TSG, the forged FBI documents were riddled with spelling and grammar errors" and created on a typewriter, which FBI agents haven't used in 30 years. Sabatino is currently serving time at the Allenwood Federal Penitentiary in Pennsylvania. When provided with the information, representatives from the LA Times said they would launch their own investigation. Philips apparently worked on the story for six months before it was published last week.

Bad Dudes

Suge Knight, founder of Death Row Records and probable assassin of Tupac Shakur and Christopher Wallace, is set to star in a new project about his life and work called Unfinished Business. According to preview above, Unfinished Business will present viewers with eye-opening portrayals of Knight et al's strange business practices, which include threats, humiliation and acts of violence. (Not that these are unorthodox business methods, but rarely is the cruelty so straightforward.) Exactly what Unfinished Business is – reality series? direct to DVD documentary? minstrel show? – is unclear and unexplained in the video.

If you know what the hell Unfinished Business is, let us know. And everyone stay out of Suge Knight's way. He is not a nice man.

tupac.jpgChuck Phillips, the Pulitzer-Prize-winning LA Times journalist who is hated around New York for his controversial stories about Tupac — in 2002, he fingered Notorious B.I.G. for Tupac's death, and on Monday he alleged in a story that both Diddy and Biggie knew about an infamous 1994 attack on Tupac at NYC's Quad City Studios before it happened — defended his reporting in a live chat on MTV.com yesterday.

Philips noted that he wasn't originally pursuing the Quad Studios incident for a story. In the chat, he explained that he was in New York last year reporting and "stumbled" on the story after discovering the names of the three assailants who purportedly attacked and robbed Shakur. Philips never confirmed what story he was chasing, but in a separate interview, he said he was investigating information regarding the 1997 murder of the Notorious B.I.G.

Phillips said he also has two more stories coming, one of which will probably be about Biggie's death. For his part, Diddy has vehemently denied having any involvement about the Quad City attack.

Again

tupacbiggie.jpgChuck Phillips, the Los Angeles Times journalist who is hated by many for accusing one Christopher Wallace of orchestrating Tupac's 1996 murder, is at it again today. He says the Biggie and then-Puff Daddy knew about the infamous attack on Tupac at NYC's Quad City studios in 1994, during which he was beaten and shot five times, weeks before it happened. According to Phillips, Tupac was only supposed to have been beaten in the attack — for disrespecting Puffy and crew — but after Tupac pulled a gun, the plan went off course. He points the finger at talent manager Jimmy "Henchman" Rosemond, who was in the news recently after 50 Cent sidekick Tony Yayo was arrested for slapping Henchman's 14-year-old son.. Henchman denies that he had any involvement in the assault, which probably took place around the time his son was born. Rosemond has never been charged, and he has said that the allegations are so preposterous they don't warrant a response.
