According to reports out of Illinois, Kelly’s defense was nowhere near as tight as his cornrows: |

R. KELLY'S VICTIM ALL GROWN UP!!!! Numerous emails have hit my inbox promising real photos of R. Kelly's alleged child pornography victim, all grown up. Other blogs have posted photos and videos, even going so far as to call the girl names. There are two possibilities here: One is that at the age of 13, this girl was sexually abused by an older, richer, successful R&B singer while he videotaped it; the second is that she is, as she asserts, the victim of mistaken identity, and it is not her in the sex tapes. However far fetched the second claim might be, either possibility should cause people to pause and reflect before blasting her face across the internet. One would think… |

The jury will break for today and the defense will begin its presentation today. Although, now that the "missing mole" has been found, they will probably be looking for a new angle. Sadly, the fact that the victim won't cop to being in the tape is a pretty good one. [USAT] |

• Clearly, black celebrities and "celebrities" are quite attracted to two Viacom channels. BET is not one of them. [EUR] • Yesterday, a forensic video analyst testified during R. Kelly's pornography trial that "it would take someone 44 years — working nonstop, 24/7, 365 days a year — to be able to fake the sex tape" at the center of the trial. He also found the mole on the back of the man in the video that matches Kelly's, even though Kelly's main defense is that the mole isn't present in the video. I really liked R. Kelly and Sparkle's duet, "Be Careful," back in the day, and she proved the lyrics right in court yesterday, when R. Kelly's defense lawyer got on her nerves. The alleged victim in the case is Sparkle's niece, and Sparkle testified for an hour and a half in court. "You know your blood," Sparkle said. "She's my niece. You just know your family. There's no denying it. … She was my heart." Later, when Kelly's lawyer suggested that she was in it for the money, she said, "Sweetie, I'm not trying to get any money for this!" The lawyer snapped back, "I'm not your sweetie!" Meanwhile, a 49-year-old woman was arrested at the courthouse for hanging by an elevator that transports the jury and screaming, "Free R. Kelly." It's a circus, basically. |

TALE AS OLD AS TIME The jury for R. Kelly's child pornography trial has been officially selected, but with eight white jurors and four black, Kelly's defense team is arguing that the prosecution intentionally sought to strike blacks from the jury pool. The prosecution used four of their seven challenges to strike minorities from contention. The prosecution hit back, saying that all seven of the defense's challenges were used to strike white male jurors. Arguments aside, the jury was approved by both sides, and the trial can finally begin. [EUR] |

The Verdict?
Despite his request to delay the proceedings, it looks like R. Kelly's child pornography trial will, indeed, begin tomorrow. After all of these years, I can't imagine what the outcome will be. What do you think will be the verdict in this long, long, long-awaited trial? Guilty or not guilty? |
