Iman, perhaps one of the rockin'-est black women around, attended the third annual "Black Girls Rock" awards with a bunch of other smiling stars, including Regina King, Veronica Webb, Estelle, and a very-eccentrically-outfitted Erykah Badu.

» Regina King Books NBC Gig

Regina King just signed on to fill a role in the new NBC drama, LAPD. She'll play a "smart, sympathetic detective in the Hollywood division." I think the TV folks are really running out of original ideas, but, for King's sake, I hope this one sticks. [EUR]

Just In Time For March 4th!

Will.i.am is back with his second breathless Barack Obama video. This one's called We Are the Ones and features Tichina Arnold, Kerry Washington, Macy Gray, Regina King, George Lopez (smart move, Will!), Jessica Alba, that guy from Ugly Betty, Ryan Phillipe, John Leguizamo, Zoe Kravitz, and more. Undecided voters are powerless before the persuasive powers of Will.i.am and his cadre of celebs!

Gabrielle Union and Regina King look like they had a lot of fun yesterday at the 7th Annual Michael Jordan Celebrity Invitational Golf Tournament in the Bahamas. But I've heard that it's always fun when Gabby's around, especially for the fellas. Joking! More pics of the revelers after the jump.

Beyonce attended Conde Nast's first "Movies Rock" event in Los Angeles Sunday, and, be still my beating heart, is that actual human scalp I see on top of her head? My eyes must be playing tricks on me.

Also in attendance at the star-studded event were Jennifer Hudson (no human scalp in sight), Eve, Eddie Murphy & beard, a glowing and very pregnant Jennifer Lopez, Regina King, LL Cool J, and new dad Usher, looking like an extra from Newsies. That's not all — check out the rest of the pics after the jump.

Common and Chris Brown, two of my favorites, bonded at yesterday's LA premiere of Chris Brown's family holiday movie, This Christmas. A large portion of black Hollywood was also there — maybe because a large portion of black Hollywood is in the movie. More pics after the jump.

The Black Girls Rock Awards, which honor positive role models for young black girls, went down Saturday in NYC. In attendance? Several black girls who rock.

C-Webb's 2nd annual celebrity weekend went down in Vegas this weekend, and too many people attended the events to name. It's nice to see that celebrities of varying levels of fame can come together for a weekend of charity. And good press. Pics after the jump.

Beyonce, Chris Brown, Bow Wow, Hillary Clinton, Mary J. Blige, Frankie Beverly and Maze, Lionel Richie, and Kelly Rowland (to name a few) took the stage Friday and Saturday at the Essence Music Festival in New Orleans. Check out plenty of pictures from the final two days of the famous festival after the jump.

At Atlantic Records 60th Anniversary Party, TI apologizes to Kevin Liles yet again for letting his other personality, TIP, ruin Liles' charity brunch last weekend. This is a guy who really knows how to take responsibility for his actions! More pics from the party after the jump.

When a celeb volunteers to publicly swab the inside of their cheek (it's not pretty, see Regina King after the jump) in front of flashing cameras, you know they must really care about HIV awareness in the black community. A handful of black actors and actresses, like (the other) Vanessa Williams, Henry Simmons, and that chick from Borat, got tested to bring attention to HIV Awareness Day. More pics after the jump.

But I'm Sure They Won't Invite Him Onto 60 Minutes

  • Funkmaster Flex encourages everyone to start snitchin'. [HHN]
  • Now we're blaming hip hop when young black people get into car accidents. [FH]
  • Vanessa Williams, Nick Cannon, and Regina King are all getting HIV tests to encourage other African Americans to get tested. I had a Nick Cannon/Kim Kardashian line I was going to use, but I don't like to joke about HIV. [PC]
  • It's either time for Lauryn Hill to get a new stylist or at least invest in a flat iron.[C&D]
  • Wow! Is Jessica Alba's proud of her Mexican heritage or what? [MG]
  • The Crystal + Lucy Awards Presented By Women in Film, Beverly Hills

    traceeellisross.jpg

Tracee Ellis Ross could give her sister Chudney some lessons in class. While her sister idolizes Paris Hilton, Tracee is a woman who, despite her famous mother, has managed to make a name for herself on a hit television show. I may not like her dress, which is kind of matronly, but I like her, and that's all that matters. Check out more pictures from Women in Film's Crystal + Lucy Awards after the jump.

    College, Banks, And Business

  • Seventy-Five (ouch) percent of young black men don't go to college. The Black Male College Explorer's Program is trying to make a (small) dent in that huge number. [WCTV]
  • Regina King's producing an all-black version of 1983's Big Chill. Watch the original before you see the remake. [EW]
  • A black business activist says complacent young people are ruining all the hard work of the past 40 years. [LAT]
  • Why haven't federal agencies censured the thousands of U.S. banks that employ unfair lending practices with black and Hispanic customers? [BB]
  • Calm down. Take a sigh of relief. Fergie insists the Black Eyed Peas will reconvene for another album. I was so worried! [HFX]
  • "A Time For Heroes" Sponsored by Disney to Benefit the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation

    blairunderwoodson.jpg

Because the big and small screen celebrities wanted to have something to do while the serious thespians (and Usher — not sure where he fits in) were at the Tony Awards in NYC, and because attending AIDS benefits is just the right thing to do, a bunch of celebrities and their kids showed up at the Disney-sponsored "A Time For Heroes Carnival" benefit for the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation. That's Blair Underwood with his son, Paris, above. Below, check out a bunch of celebs in their weekend casual-wear.
