Wherein you, the readers, talk amongst yourselves. As far as we're concerned, what church Barack Obama chooses to attend in DC is about as important as the brand of mayonnaise he prefers. Some people disagree. What do you think? |

» Bob Jones Atones for Sins
"Bob Jones University of Greenville, South Carolina, issued an online statement Thursday apologizing for 'racially hurtful' practices of its past, including prohibiting married African American students until 1971 and unmarried African American students until 1975, and banning interracial dating until 2000. The letter stated that BJU’s former policies were 'shaped more directly by that [segregationist] ethos than by the principles and precepts of the Scriptures.' 'In so doing,' the letter said, 'we failed to accurately represent the Lord and to fulfill the commandment to love others as ourselves. For these failures we are profoundly sorry.'" |
» Pastor Says Obama Could Be a 'Sell Out'
• "African-American pastor Clenard Childress, who has spoken out against Obama, said he can't discount the inspiration of Obama's story. Childress, pro-life activist and pastor of New Calvary Baptist Church in Montclair, N.J., said, 'He went through the system and he prevailed over the system,' something Childress honestly didn't believe Obama could do. But Childress thinks … Obama's presidency … will not be good for the black community if he continues to push a pro-abortion, pro-homosexual agenda that hurts African-Americans: 'He has to prove that he has not sold out to the values of the black community for his own political gain. . . . He has to rule with a degree of integrity.'" |

» Women in Black Churches Fighting Familiar Battle
• "Many black women are finding ways to take a more active role in their northeast Ohio churches, from singing in choirs to serving on boards of trustees. Several women are bucking the long-held thought that men should lead churches' worship and finances. They are leading choirs, taking the pulpits and running committees. Many black congregations still ban female clergy. Others don't put them in senior pastor roles. Black women activists say change is long overdue in their struggle for equal opportunities in their church. They can be trustees and teachers and can even be ordained as deacons and ministers in some black churches." (emphasis ours) |

Dept of Idiocy
Yesterday on The View, the Reverend Mike Huckabee, political loser and sanctimonious miscreant, said something totally astounding: that blacks are more deserving of civil rights than gays because they've endured more violence. Seriously. He said that. Asked by co-host Joy Behar why it would be bad to do away with the traditional "institution" of marriage, whereas it was fine for blacks to want to do away with the traditional "institution" of segregation, Huckabee responded: "But here is the difference. Bull Connor was hosing people down in the streets of Alabama. John Lewis got his skull cracked on the Selma bridge." Nice talk, REVEREND! Here's why Mike Huckabee is a disgusting, ignorant hatemonger… |

Prince, with his frilly silk shirts and high heel everything, has long been the victim of rumors about his sexuality, and his libido-infused party jams have helped acquire the Minnesota-born musician a devoted gay fan base. So you can imagine our surprise upon learning that the Purple One, who has for several years been an outspoken Jehovah's Witness, went on a homophobic rant during a recent interview with the New Yorker, saying that, in the past, God came down and wiped out homosexual activity. |

True Evil

|
The persecution of "witches" throughout the African continent continues. Far worse than Thomas Muthee, Sarah Palin's spiritual adviser who famously ran an old lady from his village in Kenya after deeming her evil, is the story of the "child-witches" of Nigeria. Convinced by insane, stupid, greedy clerics that their children are being possessed wholesale by demons, Nigerian parents have taken to abandoning boys and girls as young as five after torturing them for their sins. The innocents who have survived their attacks now clog the West African nation's refuges. |

Unfortunately, you had to know this was coming. Angered by the news that black voters were a major factor in the success of Prop 8, California's gay marriage ban, some segments of yesterday's anti-Prop 8 protests in LA soon devolved into hateful pits of racism: |

In some areas of the country and in some congregations, you don't play when it comes to picking out your church outfit. Abyssinian Baptist Church in Harlem, where the congregation might include fashion glitterati like Bethann Hardison or Andre Leon Talley on any given Sunday, is no exception. The New York Times has a fun slide show of some of the more colorful outfits on display on a recent Sunday. CONTINUED » |

"Is There Something Wrong With Being A Muslim In This Country? The answer is no."
|
|
John McCain has been commended for that one day last week when he defended Barack Obama twice against claims that the Democratic candidate is scary, not-to-be trusted, and, of course, Arab. But missing in that defense that McCain so generously offered — after being attacked from all sides for his previous failure to do so — was that, in addition to the fact that Obama is neither Muslim nor Arab, Muslims and Arabs should not be feared and shunned. |
