The Grass Isn't Always Greener
A representative of the British National Party — a whites only, anti-Islam, anti-gay nationalistic political party — has won a seat in the London Assembly after receiving more than 5 percent of the constituency's vote. It's the first London Assembly seat ever won by a BNP representative. Richard Barnbrook, the BNP member elected, immediately set the tone for his time in office in a press conference in which he railed against Muslim immigrants and gays: "You may have your religion behind your closed doors, but you don't bring it onto the streets. … You can be gay behind closed doors … but you don't bring it onto the streets, demanding more rights for it." |
