The second season of VH1's Celebrity Rehab airs tonight, and everyone's favorite police brutality victim/raging alcoholic Rodney King is a cast member. Here's what he had to say about his reality rehab experience: "It was a real positive experience, just getting myself to be alert again and dealing with life on life's terms. It was a good experience to face some demons… It just felt good to have people still out there rooting for me and giving me the strength and the encouragement to go get some help." Here's hoping it sticks! [SP]
On the seventeen-year anniversary of Rodney King's police beating heard 'round the world, I wondered what he was up to — besides getting shot while cycling drunk, that is. Thanks to TMZ, I now know that he is living in a house with a porn star and the guy who sang that stupid "Butterfly" song for Dr. Drew's new VH1 rehab show called Sober Living. First Dr. Drew saved Judy Winslow, now he's moved onto Rodney King. This man is a saint. [TMZ]
WHERE IS HE NOW? Seventeen years ago today, Rodney King was severely beaten by Los Angeles police officers in an incident that was caught on tape by an amateur videographer. A year later, four policemen involved in the city were acquitted, and we all know what happened next. So where is Rodney "Can't We All Just Get Along" King now?
The last we heard from King, back in November of last year, he had been shot in the face and body with a pellet gun and drunkenly bicycled for a mile before calling the police. At next year's anniversary of his tragic beating, let's hope there's something in the update about him joining AA.
Can't we all just get…Rodney King to Alcoholics Anonymous? The man made famous for getting the shit beat out of him in 1991 by a group of LA's finest, whose acquittal inspired the infamous and deadly LA riots, was shot with pellets in the shoulders, face, and back while riding his bike in a shady part of town yesterday. He pedaled about a mile to his house and then called the police. Apparently, he was drunk at the time and police are still trying to figure out what is "factual" about the series of events King described. I will hand it to the man — at least he wasn't drinking and driving. [LAT]
